Wow! I hope that both of you have a successful recovery. What an amazing thing you have done for your father. You have my utmost respect (someone very close to me is here today because of transplants, so your story really tugged at my heartstrings).

Thanks guys! Doing well. Lots of rest, liquids, and walking around. Dad's kicking butt! His numbers are the lowest they've been in years and he feels awesome. So exciting to see him doing this well.

Glad to hear that!

great news! Lucky guy! I bet he is stoked to feel like a 20 something, have an uncanny tollerance for alcohol, and pee that smells like lavender.

I was thinking that. This was probably the biggest no-brainer you've ever had in your life. Cool

Chavez - pretty much.

Recovering on the couch, lots of water and Powerade this weekend. My best friends brought over tons of movies and stuff to watch. Dad should be released from the hospital this afternoon - he's excited to get out of there!

Thanks again for all the positive thoughts. Much appreciated Smile

Just an update for you guys. 9 days after surgery and both of us are eating normal food, walking around, and doing well. No driving or lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk for a few more weeks. Both of us have appointments with the surgeons tomorrow to check up on progress. But we both feel great. Amazing how quickly we were both out of the hospital and on the road to recovery!!!

bread and cold cuts are lighter than a gallon of milk and you don't have to drive to the kitchen, so get your ass in there and make me a sammich woman!

Wow I just saw this Aubs, glad to hear you & Dad are doing well.
You get a nice single port Pfannenstiel incision or the belly button cut?

I was thinking this about pies. Pies don't weigh a lot. Now go make me some pie!

goofy - LOL

jryoung - Nothing over 8-10lbs for 6wks after surgery. Lifting my purse is a struggle. I walked 3/4 of a mile yesterday and took a 2hr nap after. This kicked my butt.

jt09 - smart @ss

dlady - I had a laparoscopic procedure. 2 1/2in incisions and an inch incision just below my left ribs, then a 4in incision below my belly button. The larger incision is QUITE low and will definitely be covered by a bikini bottom, so it will be hidden, which is nice.

chavez - Standing for that long would be tough. A 10min shower is difficult. Haven't had much of an appetite either (dlady might know more about this - something to do with a zinc deficiency after anesthesia that causes a change in taste/smell?) so no desire to bake.

ChrisG - Hate ironing. Unloading the dishwasher, cleaning, etc - all fine. No ironing for me.

They usually don't cut that low, you probably had a young male surgeon.

Brocc - Friends have asked to see the incisions. I show them the top 3, but not the major one...that's how low it is. Kinda weird. But surgeon was in his 50s, don't think he had an alterior motive.

Jt - DEF NOT! Surgery was done at Yale. Wouldn't go anywhere else for it. But since that's where dad's always gone, and is only 30min or so from parents houses, it works perfectly.

Chavez - I have some icecream and strawberries. Strawberry shortcake work? Lol

Seriously wow aubs. wow.

On the way to work today some lady was on the side of the road with a flat tire. I thought hard about stopping to help. I didn't, but I thought about it. I felt pretty good about myself because I took the time to think about helping. Now, what I did, sortof feels insignificant.

Very Happy

Pretty much how they're being done. The transplant surgeons I work with are awesome and stay fairly busy. My involvement is strictly on the donor side of lap nephrectomies.
They explain to you why they took your left kidney vs right?
