Looking at getting a new board for this season. So far i'm thinking the
2012 LF witness or a 2011 watson classic with either the transit or vantage open toe bindings. I'm a intermediate rider, 5'10 185lbs but slowly losing my winter beer belly. I'm sure their both great boards but which would you prefer?

I like the ride of the Witness but that's just me. What kind of riding are you doing (I assume boat)? Do you have any opportunity to try the boards? What have you ridden in the past that you liked?

You can't go wrong with either from a performance standpoint, it depends on what type of ride you like.

There is a reason they won't stop making the watson classic. It is a classic all around great board. just my opinion.

Both of those boards are tried and true designs. You can't really go wrong with either. Both boards are kind of loose and speedy which I like, and which is why I love my Lyman. I also like the idea of the grind base, which I don't think the Watson has. Other than that, I'd probably be happy with either one (as soon as I took off the center fins Very Happy).

All that really matters is that you're happy with it.

As for the bindings, pretty much the same thing, take your pick of whichever one suits you best. If we're talking all LF gear, I'd probably prefer Shane or Watson CTs but right now I'm having a mad love affair with these Ronix Franks. Wink

There won't be anywhere to try the boards first, I kinda live in the middle of nowhere. I've been leaning towards the witness, mostly cause its slightly cheaper. As for bindings, can anyone shed some light on what's better between the transits or the Vantages? I was thinking of the Vantages but I am concerned I won't be able to get the Velcro as tight as the laces on the transits. The transits are also less expensive. Cost isn't a huge concern but every dollar I save on a new board/bindings is more I have to spend on my new ballast setup for the boat.

It's of course totally personal preference, but my $0.02 are that I prefer the Witness over the Watson Classic. Though I like 'm both. Everybody I know who has tried the Witness loved it, and many even bought it.
Anyway, both great boards so you can't go wrong. If you're leaning towards the cheaper set up just go for it.

The watson classic came in a grind base also. I have a regular watson classic and a watson classic LTD (grind base). LTD is a little heavier with a little smaller molded fins. The LTD is a very loose board if thats what you like.

anw7405, wasn't sure if the Classic came with the grind base. Thanks.

I'd say the thread is unanimous. Both those boards rock. Laughing

Seriously, at this point just pick the one with the graphics you like. Mr. Green
