i have an opportunity to pick up a '91 ski nautique closed bow for a song. i dont currently have a real ski boat, but a deep v IO.

this boat more or less has a flat bottom, can i put enough ballast in it to make a decent wakeboard wake? my current boat with a full tank, sand and ballast will make a near knee high wake, but the crest isnt as clean as a proper boat.

what are your thoughts on this. my current boat is 10 years older and an IO. my only beef with my current boat is that its difficult to ski with it with more than 2 people in the boat (and thats kindof a bummer).

thanks

btw, i have read this
http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?p=1273853&sid=9a6dc225c39278073d5bc8984886c178

i'm just curious if its a better deal what i currently have. if someone had a picture of a wake with this series of boat would really help my decision.

i could prbly sell my current boat, and repair this one and break even on price. i would be up 10 years, a ski deck and a windshield.

Go for it. Wake isn't the best out there, but it's OK and for a sure a huge improvement over what you have now.

Not a very good wake. I'd look for a Sport Nautique or a 1980s Ski Nautique 2001. The wakes are considerably better.

I obviously know that inboards make better wakes than I/0's if they are the right inboards, but I am assuming that an inboard like this will not make a better wake than some I/Os... What im trying to say is..just because its an inboard, doesnt make it a "wakeboard boat" or better than an i/o

I would agree... unless it's a V-Drive. Although... my DD makes a pretty fair wake.

Ive ridden behind some DD's with a slammin wake, but it wasnt a nautique like the one hes lookin for. Im just saying to remember just because its an inboard doesnt make it a great wakeboard wake..

Here are some pics of the wake of our '91. These are unweighted. We now have 1 350lb sac on each side of the motor as far forward as we can get it ( Takes about the whole walkway on each side). And only use an extended pylon.

For reference the rider is only 5'8". We ride at 60-65' feet and around 20-22mph seems to get us to the peak of the wake without washout. Hope it helps.
