Chicken Wings

So, I was watching some of the NCAA tournament at a local Buffalo Wild Wings and ordered some traditional wings. They must have been from a baby chicken, very little meat, mostly bone. It seems to me that this has been the trend for a while. Anyone else notice this?

So my main question is, assuming this is trying to keep cost down, would you rather pay $3-4 more for a dozen wings for good stuff or keep the price down and get crap?

I'd rather pay more.....far more.... I hate paying for chitty product, whatever that may be.

That is my gut answer as well. Then I found my self standing in front of the beer cooler at grocery store disgusted with the prices, trying to figure out what to buy.

I've had the opposite experience at b dubs. Although I do think the traditional wings are typically larger any other day than tuesday. I think the wings are larger now than they were 10 years ago.

I wish b dubs would finish their wings on the grill. There is a local bar and grill that is known for their "char buff" wings. Imo, there isn't a better way to cook a chicken wing.

finkle, pizza joint I go to finishes their wings in the pizza oven. Just a couple of minutes... it bakes off the oil and makes em just a little crispier. Then he tosses em in whatever sauce you ask for. They turn out pretty damn good.

You should see the beer wall at the market next to my house (Nugget). It's a sight to behold.

I know Portland Brewing went tits up and was liquidated to Pyramid. I don't know whats going on with BridgePort but all I see is there IPA. Both those companies used to have 4 or 5 options at retail now 1 or 2. Plus, we really don't get alot of California craft brews up here. I am sure there are one or two others but Sierra Nevada is about it.

Definitely prefer getting a better wing and am willing to pay for it. I've done some wings in the smoker that come out really good. I am also a fan of grill or oven to finish and add a little crispiness to the skin.

I can't even begin to just name the list of decent sized CA brew houses. And the regionals, jeez. That is a long ass list.

I guess I just thought that the industry was still pretty strong up there. Bummer.

I always opt to pay more for quality.

I like meaty wings, but often meaty is really just fatty, which I don't like either so you can be damned if you do damned if you dont.

Sounds like Cluck U is in order for lunch today now though.

there was this place we'd go in Miami called Flanigan's that after 10pm every night had a free order of wings with each pitcher. and the wings were BIG and meaty ahhh so good i miss it Sad

eeven73, same here, but there are an equal stuff load of ones that do distribute here. Seems backward to me.

And I knew of Ninkasi, but their stuff isn't really available around here.

I just read that Weinhards is owned by the Dutch now (as is Miller), but Full Sail does brew some varieties on contract. Interesting.

Did not know that Widmer was part owned by Bud.

scott a, I am not saying there are not micro options avaliable. I am saying the variety has decreased in the last 5ish years.

chavez, Yes, InBev bought Bud 4ish years ago. InBev while headquarter in Belgium is actually run by Brazilians.

or you could get boneless. the ones at our BWW are pretty good sized and its only like $2 more anyways. i cant eat 18 boneless but i could murder 18 traditional
