I am very interested to see what becomes of this.
NPR had it, but I haven't seen it on any other news outlets. Haven't really looked though.
With all these claims of people doing stuff like this before and then having their patents bought only to disappear, I would love to track this guy's business and see what happens.
Heh.. people will start mining garbage dumps for plastic...
I'm curious to see if it could run most gas engines, or if it only has special applications.

Plastic is a petroleum product, so this makes perfect sense.

They made it sound like it was #6 that was produced so by my feeble understanding of fuel grades it is similar to bunker fuel which proimarily has it's use in ships.
If it's true regarding cost ($10) and selling price ($100) seems pretty obvious it will be a success if they can clear the "alternative" hurdle.

I suppose... though I don't know enough chemistry to have assumed that something made from petroleum could be converted back into a petroleum like product....
As far as JRyoung's observations about #6 fuel and whatnot, perhaps it is possible to make a better quality with some further processing or something.... and keep it below 5$ a gallon of finished product...
that would be awesome.

From my understanding of refining these lower quality feed stocks could affect the catalysts used in transportation fuel refining. To that extent you would need a special refinery to go that direction which cuts into those economics. But bunker fuel or even heating fuel would help with the supply-demand curve.
