So, I'm traveling to Tampa this weekend and have a Sunday with nothing much to do and found this cable park (McCormicks) that is supposedly pretty close - but I've never done this before... Does anyone have any thoughts about cable parks or this one in particular? Is it fun? Is it safe?

There is a 5 page liability waiver I have to sign... Shocked

DeuxCoeurs1, Cable parks and McCormick's in general are awesome. I go almost every weekend when the warmer weather is out (actually probably going this weekend for the first time in a while). How much experience do you have wakeboarding?

Waivers are there just to cover themselves. Wakeboarding is a physically demanding sport and as such, there's always the potential for injury, they just don't want to be found liable if someone messes up. It's arguably no more dangerous than any other sport and you'd probably sign something somewhat similar if you joined a gym or a recreational sporst league. They require that everyone wear a helmet and a coast guard approved life jacket (they have them to rent) and take safety pretty seriously.

I should add, you'll definitely have a blast if you go.

Also, if you have any questions about McCormick's specifically let me know. It's my home away from home in the summer.

I would say go.. Just to check out the park and give it a shot. If you have never been to a cable I would say go for sure. you might find out you like riding cable.

It is safe. It is fun.

Cool thanks!

GnarShredd, As for experience, I don't have much - I can get up out of the water and as long as I don't try to cross the right hand edge of the wake, I don't faceplant - don't know what my issue is there Puppy Eyes

Anyway, I don't subscribe to the "go big or go home" theory - I subscribe to the, "go home slightly sore, with no broken bones and have a glass of wine" theory... So it sounds like this might be the right speed for me.

I haven't been to mcormicks, but I assume its counter clockwise rotation, so if you have trouble going toeside, you will have problems going counter clockwise. Once you learn how to get through the markers and make it around the lap, your wakeboarding will get better, Have Fun!

Oh boy... I do have trouble going toeside, which is why I think I can't make it over the right hand side of the wake (regular foot not goofy). Weird thing is, when snowboarding I can't keep off of my toes! Uggh! Well, I'm just going to do it - sounds like more fun than watching the paint dry in my hotel room Wink

I'm at McCormick's almost every day and I can tell you that it is both fun and safe. Definitely worth it! C'mon out and you can learn to stand up on the Little Bro (a mini cable for beginners) and then take on the big cable. Cable riding should be part of every rider's skillset. It's a fun way to ride with all your friends and a much cheaper and easier way to learn than a boat.

TheHebrewHammer, Sweet, good to hear it- I was actually thinking that's where I should start out- after watching others for a few. I'll be there on Sunday no doubt!

TheHebrewHammer, Hey dude, are you gonna be out Saturday? I'm thinking about coming out of winter hibernation now that it's warmed up. Will probably be there for a couple hours starting when they open.

NVChickadee, You'll have a good time.

TheHebrewHammer, Thanks for encouraging me to go - was out there today and it was AWESOME! My arms feel like jello now, but well worth it!
