lol I knew the punchline before even clicking the thread

But if I was a quarterback about to be replaced by someone, I really wouldn't mind all that much if Peyton Manning was the one taking my place.

It's going to be interesting to watch if he sticks around and gains more knowledge or goes somewhere else. Seems like sticking around is in his best interest.

Okie Boarder, he's going. It's basically public that they are looking to trade him.

It's in absolutely no one's best interest for him to stay. The whole concept of a veteran, proven quarterback taking the young up-and-comer under his wing is patently absurd. It NEVER happens. Go ask Steve Young, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, etc. etc. How many "how is Tebow looking in practice? Are you guys BFFs?" questions do you think Peyton would tolerate?

Part of the reason that the Colts were so horrible last year was that Peyton has always insisted on having crappy back-ups that they they could keep around forever on the cheap and not worry about other teams learning their offensive secrets and what goes on in QB film sessions. He never gave a siht about developing them.

I also love that it looks like Manning is going to hamstring yet another franchise wish a ridiculous contract. More power to him though.

You realize that Indy signed Peyton for more money than Peyton asked for right? Irsay publicly insisted that Peyton should be paid like the best QB. Also Peyton has publicly stated that he is willing to sign an incentive heavy contract, with little money guaranteed up front. I find no reason to not believe him, and the details will come out shortly after signing.

This is sadistic, but what if it goes horribly in Denver and the Broncos have the #1 pick next year. Does Elway do Peyton for Barkley? Twisted Evil

Peyton going to Denver shouldn't shock anyone. Let's just pray Timmy ends up at Jacksonville or maybe Dolphins (though they signed Garrard tonight). He ends up at NE and I might boycott my own team.

Ok maybe he didn't insist on crappy back ups haha but he wanted guys who were happy to just hold a clipboard, had little desire (or talent) to pursue starting jobs elsewhere and would stay as long as possible. Then, Peyton never let them play, even in blowouts. So crappiness is almost guaranteed and you're left having to bring in Kerry Collins in a crunch because you literally have no one else.

Elway does have a man chub for Barkley, so I wouldn't be shocked. If he can get a couple years out of manning, and somehow figures out how to get Barkley I think that would be Elways dream setup.

But as mentioned, manning doesn't exactly tutor his backups. Maybe he will now that this is clearly his last hurrah, IDK.

Bull f'ing siht. Any statement claiming such was purely a publicity/good will stunt. He just felt like making Peyton the highest paid player...by $5M/year...out of the kindness of his heart. The same guy who was sending out 1AM tweets admonishing Peyton for being a politician a month ago.

Sure, Irsay just felt like throwing Peyton--who he knew was injured, though not how seriously--$51M within a year of signing (the $28M roster bonus would have f'ed the Colts even if Peyton was his usual Pro Bowl self)...right after the new CBA and more restrictive salary cap went into place. It had nothing at all to do with Peyton having all the leverage and being secretive about the nature and extent of his surgeries, right? Dear lord, dude Rolling Eyes

I'm not even trying to be negative on Peyton. Get as much money as you can while you can. Just don't tell me all he wants is the best chance to win a Super Bowl. He's ALWAYS cared about being the highest paid player.
