Let's start your own thread, and not keep bumping that trainwreck of embarrasment.
First off, I'm no boat guru. I've been around a long time, and what I have learned about boats is from experience, and from all the other members on this site. They combined knowledge has helped me. And with that, I still learn new stuff all the time from all of the members here. So let's call on all of them for this.
You say your looking for a V-drive in the 15-20 range. Possible? Yes. Easy, depends.
You said you wanted to know when to look, well we will answer that one quickly. More boats on the market in Spring, better negotiating power in Fall. That's it in a nutshell. You'll have to decide what is your best option with that knowledge.
Some questions for you:
1) What are you handy man skills? What I mean is, are you capable of boat repairs? And if so, what level? Completely rebuild one from scratch? Or just do minor engine maintenance like oil changes, and spark plugs?
2) Do you have a preference in make?
3) What is your location? That will matter in my searches.
4) What will the boat primarily be used for? Wakeboard, wakesurf, cruising, skiing, family, kids? All of those matter in the search. |

You are the man for helping.
I'm somewhat handy, and have a mechanic buddy who can certainly help with the general stuff. Couldn't do a total rebuild but did replace my starter on my current boat, simple things like that. I think I could install ballasts, stereo components or a tower(put the tower on the current boat)
I don't have a preference in make, fiancee wants a v drive so its more of a social setting
Location is Baltimore but willing to travel pretty far to pick it up, we have already talked about it and think it could be a fun journey. user name is actually balt frog, but not too concerned about that
Wakeboarding is number one most important, haven't wakesurfed but would hate to have to buy a new boat to be able to try. She wants to be able to take friends out, I view them as ballasts. No family, no skiing needed. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

I would probably look for fall/winter and spend the time looking even if less is out there. Hoping with gas prices going up that boat prices will plummit at the end of this season. Currently have roughly 5k in the boat fund and plan on at least doubling that to put down 10 or more and finance the difference hopefully keeping the loan amount around 5-7. So what suggestions would everyone have for me? _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

This is a boat my amateur eyes would be drawn to. Am i looking in the right area? Moombas seem to catch my eye too as affordable v drives. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

I think that boat looks expensive.
I think you might find a 2000+ Nauty 210 at the upper end of your price range. If I were looking with your parameters I would prob go this route. You may have to do some work on it but I hear they are not bad to work on. They seem to last forever as there are tons out there. That IMO would be the best wakeboard boat. If your new to boarding it might be a little more of an advanced wake "steep". But you can always ride it with less ballast.
You might also find some x-stars also although I think they are smaller inside than the 210. Also there are some VLX that make a good wake but you have to watch which hull your dealing with. They might have high hours but if well taken care of any of them could be good boats. Make sure to get anything you looked at compression tested. |

http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=31715 found one a little overpriced in my opinion based on the hours. But its pretty local. Again this is ahead of my timeline but I just want to get a feel of what I should be looking at _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

Yes I saw that one too. Something along those lines. I think you can do better on hours and shape if your patient. Then use anything like that as a bargaining tool to come down on the price.

There are some guys on this forum that know these boats way better than me but I have always liked the way they looked and performed when I have been on them. |

As far as I know the 210 is always a vdrive. Nautique has all kinds of hull configurations Sport this and Super Air that don't get me to lying. The 210 is commonly known as 1 of the best wakeboats ever made. The rest I don't know much about. |

Sport/Air is dd, Super Sport and Super Air are V-drive (=210). The Super Sport/SuperAir/210 hull has been the same from '95 through 2006. _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

have a 2003 Super Air Team 210 I picked up a couple of years ago for 25k, had just under 800 hours, everything was in great shape, with gas getting so high i would think you would get a good deal on a v drive this spring, the 210 would fit all your needs, i like the surf wake and the wake with fully loaded ballast and another 900 or so pounds makes the wake one of the best out there IMO _________________ Lithic, LLC, my biz

I would certainly be interested and would come with gas or cash. Only ever ridden behind an i/o so the more chances I get to try boats out the better educated i'll be _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

I've actually really liked that boat for awhile. The lack of a v drive I guess is my main concern. Since I'm not in any type of rush that's why I haven't looked further into it. Plus I imagine if its still on sale in the fall I could get a great deal. Really nice looking boat though, love the color scheme _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

Baltfrog, if you really want to get crazy and go for a cool idea, and get yourself a v-drive, you might consider getting a mid 90's Supra Sunsport DD and turn it into a v-drive, adding ballast, PP, etc. You would be able to do that with the budget you're planning. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

Having someone else do it may work within your budget depending on the original price. As haugy mentioned, the Santera is a good option, too.
haugy, isn't the Santera essentially what took the place of the Saltare? _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

That 2000 santera is sweet looking. These are some of the few v drives i've seen w/o towers. Does that indicate anything about the wake that this hull throws? _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

Since you still just gathering information about what you want. I would suggest riding behind as many boats as you can this summer. Hitch a ride with anyone and everyone. Also when you start calling and looking at the boats make sure to ride them as well. The wake behind all the boats is all different and some people like different types of wakes. The v drive Supra's have a good wake however their are some people that do not care for their style its just personal preference really. IMO most of the companies have some signature to the wake that their boat lines put out. Ex Malibu, MC are known to be rampy where Supra and Nauty are known to be steep. This is not 100% but a good idea.
One way I have ridden behind a lot of boats is I have taken boat lessons from just about anyone that has them around me. Some of the lessons were good some where just plain bad but in each case I rode behind another type of wake boat. |

Definitely my plan, problem is it appears my area is not a big wakeboarding area at all. Got an offer from onecrazyredhead that i am looking to take him up on thats 2 hours away. I know my uncles neighbors have a legit boat too. Just trying to network as much as possible. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

Well it is certainly not 2 hours away from you but the dfw area and austin area have tons of boats if you want to make a vaca out of it. I am more than happy to take you out here for a few sets. I pull my boat all over the I35 corridor from OKC to Sequin. |

Quite a generous offer, i may have to take you up on that at some point this summer. I love this board everyone is so friendly. Forums are definitely hit or miss and this one is all hit. Good info, good vibes. What kind of boat do you have? I think I may have seen you mention it in a previous thread, but asking is just easier. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

Not sure when yet, but we do make a run now and then to Draper or Thunderbird while visiting the inlaws. We are at Texoma ,Murray and Arbuckles most of the summer. Will let you know when we make it this year. I have a little one due around the 4th this year that will slow me down some. |

Theres a sn2001 that was converted, the guy did an absoultely amazing job too. I don't think it would be difficult persay, but it would be timeconsuming.

Looks like some of the newer barefoot nautiques are vdrive with a 454 standard, that could be an option. _________________ Dale - "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade -- THEN find someone who's life handed them vodka and throw one helluva party" |

There's another one on ccf that did a sn2001 too. That one gives you a pretty good idea, though. Basically need to relocate the engine to the back, turn it around, buy a v-drive unit, move the gas tank, build a rear swim deck and seating configuration and voila.
FunkyBunch, we usually go to Arcadia since it is so close. We are planning a near full week trip to Murray this year in June or July though. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |
