At work, my FB quit working on Chrome. It works in IE. At home last night, my wife couldn't get on ebay in IE, so I downloaded chrome and it opened fine. Any ideas why one will work and not the other?

IE sucks balls.
Chrome is great except for when it crashes EVERY time I try to print from it. No apparent solutions to that from what my Google search turned up. _________________

Why does everyone hate on IE so much? I use both chrome and IE and both have their advantages and disadvantages. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one.
As a web application developer, IE gives me nothing but headaches. It doesn't follow standards as closely as other browsers and is full of bugs. Therefore, applications & web sites that are developed for use in IE don't always work/look right in other browsers without some special handling added, and vice-versa for those applications/web sites developed for more standards-compliant browsers such as Firefox and Chrome.
Unfortunately, a large population of users uses IE. I wish everyone would use Chrome or Firefox because it would make my life easier, haha.

name an advantage of ie, other than the majority of sites are developed for ie first, the others after (we develop chrome first and fix for ie, but most don't).
edit - it looks like you mean being able to see all open tabs on one screen. are you really trying to tell me that is some kind of advantage? really? talk about low expectations.

^This.
MSFT for some reason thinks they are special and don't have to follow standards, so they make it a pain in the ass for developers to keep a seamless experience across multiple platforms.
Our broker-dealer forces IE use. Problem is, they don't support IE9 (or 10), they only support up to IE8. Great!!! So I get a security problematic browser to submit sensitive client information over? SWEET!!!
Good news is most of our clients are held direct at Schwab, so I don't have to deal with our BD's stupid web interface much.
Anyhow, supposedly IE10 is going to be much better. I think it might be too late though, Chrome and Firefox are at 50% share and steadily climbing.
I use Chrome. Right now they have the best cross-platform setup. The Chrome on Win7 at work is exactly the same as the Chrome on OSX at home. Same favs, same addons, same stored passwords, same everything! _________________
Yeah I can understand from the developing side, from the user side I don't run into these issues, which is why I use both, and safari for that matter. Not too picky about the browser experience, as i don't use favorites and bookmarks too often. All the pages I visit I type in the first 2 or 3 letters and it pops up, so no need for the favorites. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one.
chavez, I'm not holding my breath on IE10 being any better.
Unfortunately for me, most of our clients support only IE - some are still using IE6... so trying to get something to work right in IE6 - 9 as well as chrome & firefox is next to impossible. If we could at least get people off IE6 that would make things much easier!

this is a HUGE problem w/ corporate clients. it's amazing how many people are still limping along w/ ie6 or ie7. it's a bitch to develop to those standards because they are so old. usually, our answer is to see if we can either smuggle chrome onto their workstation w/o it finding out, or get it to allow it outright.
jt09, yeah, and because they feel the "sh*t just works" they leave it alone.
Same reason why XP has such a dominant foothold in enterprise. I still have 2 XP units here in the office, and I hate dealing with them, but at least I've moved them up to IE8!!!
They also run Chrome, but getting an 80yo man to use a computer at all is a feat in and of itself, so retraining him to Chrome is not something I'm interested in.
Smuggle it! I smuggled Dropbox on to my wife's new MBP. Her district has the applications folder locked down, so I just installed it in to her documents folder. I think I have more IT experience than their entire district IT dept - and they support a thousand or so users!!!! _________________

I can't even wrap my brain around building a website in IE first. The lack of development tools and their 'special' CSS rules would make me lose my shiat.
We build sites in FF or Chrome, both have a Firebug type addon which allows you inspect code. One of the last things we do is open the site in the various versions of IE and start fixing the broke crap. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News
