jesus. on a related note, i drove by a local board shop last weekend, and they had a hyperlite zen 141, a shapiro signature board, out in the yard as a display. that brought back memories as it was the second board i ever had.

cameraboy, why make thousands when you can make millions? His clinic prescribed more oxycontin than the entire state of california, which I find highly unrealistic, but that's what they reported.

I learned a few years ago that it is just easier to play by the rules than do whatever you want. Life is simpler and happier that way.

I maybe can see how this happened. Maybe he's taking pain killers for wakeboarding related injuries, they have a bunch of money and a father and brother with some time on their hands and a connection to easy oxy through Darrin.... next thing you know, CHRONIC PAIN CLINIC!

Eh.

I don't feel the least bit bad for this guy. I imagine he could have made a living above my standard of living just by selling boats and teaching wakeboarding.....

But what's up with this sport? Is it still popular?

cameraboy, I guess just he just fell in the the persuit of gimme more money. It's a bummer to see since it's someone I looked up to as a kid but at the same time it was a really dumb decision. Makes me sad to see someone with a life I could only dream of (working in the wake industry, traveling the world to ride, etc.) throwing it away.

A episode of Drug Inc. on Nat Geo was about the pain killer abuse across the nation was on TV this weekend. People were driving from many states away to visit a pain clinic like the one the Shapiro's were running.

Wow, I remember he used to be my favorite rider. Met him a few different times at comps, and he was always very cool and laid back about talking to fans.

Must have been the pills.

Really is sad to see this happen though.

Oh, I got ya. Like, you look up to a person and then it's disappointing when it turns out that they are fighting dogs and selling drugs or importing 12 year old thai boys for sex or whatever.

Don't be too disappointed when your idols turn out to be people too, I always say. And I also think that everyone has the capacity to be rotten, even Tim Tebow. HAHAHAHA!

Poppy seeds have been used medicinally for thousands of years though.

I think it's generally accepted that when any drug, even the coca leaf, us used in a natural state, being only harvested and dried, the addictive properties and the damage is minimal or nonexistent compared to when man "refines" the active agents into a more "pure" form.

eating poppy seeds as a source of morphien or codein is, I imagine, far less damaging than shooting refined heroin, right?

Seems god gave us some good stuff that we had to go and ruin by making it super potent and addictive.
