Hi Guys,

I know there is 1 million threads like this one, so I appologize for adding to the pile!

Got into the water for the first time this past week end to try my hand at wakeboarding. Got up on my 3rd try, and I was hook. I feel very comfortable on the board, and I am cutting through the wake with relative ease.

I am looking at getting myself a board, i am 5'6" and around 172 pounds.
I was riding my friends board wich was a 141 , and I think im going to stay with that size, I just dont know what style board i Should be going for?

I am a beginner , but I dont want to have to buy a new board in 6 months when i get better.

I have hand me down bindings from my cousin which im going to use, ronix ONE 2011.

THANKS! Very Happy

that is a good pair of hand me down bindings. see if he has a hand me down ronix board he can let you ride.

at 172 you probably want to be in the 138-140 size board range. So you are in the right size.

what kind of board were you riding?

My friends board is a hyperlite , its called a Premier.

I found that board very easy to use, and very comfortable.
But In my readings somewhere i picked up that hyperlite isn't such
a great brand. Is this true?

Nukleuz, Hyperlite is one of the bigger wakeboard brands out there and they make just as good of a product as the other big companies. Just stay away from brands like HydroSlide, World Industries, HO, etc.

To keep it simple, any brand you see on major wakeboard selling websites like boardstop.com will be fine. Stay away from generic boating stores since you never know what you'll come across.

If there is a cable park anywhere near you, I'd get a board with a slider base.

I would take a look at all the package deals that the companies have put out now. Some of those packages are older pro model boards that have now been changed. The premier that you rode is now a package setup from Hyperlite. the Watson classic is also a package setup. Boards and bindings start at $299 and go up from there. But since you have a top of the line pair of bindings already I would just look at a solid board. Since you have a pair of 2011 ronix bindings check out the 2011 ronix boards that are on closeout now. We have just a few left at boardstop.com but all the 2011 gear is on closeout since the new 2012 is now out.

I rode the premier for years, loved that board. It worked great while I was learning, it has a forgiving shape. I switched to a HL Murray pro model this last season and found that if I get a little sloppy in my technique that board lets me know right away. Hyperlite is a good company, they stand behind their products.
