|
The summary: CPS worker called 911 when Powell let kids in and slammed door in her face, COPS DID NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://abcnews.go.com/US/josh-powell-tragedy-cps-worker-pleaded-cops-house/story?id=15535154#.TzKWhVz3h_g
So very, very angry after reading that. What that story tells me is CPS can't really protect anything, nor can they rely on the police to assist if children are in IMMEDIATE danger??? WHAT.THE.FACK!!!!!!!!!!! _________________

| while i'm first in line to give the cops grief when they screw up, i find it hard to blame them here. they get a hundred calls a day from people who think something bad is about to happen, and they can't respond to those over something that has happened. besides, how would their immediate response have changed anything? a cruiser shows up and watches the place burn down w/ the social worker? |

| I saw a Dateline or 20/20 show on this guy a while back. At the time, he was living with his dad who was also interviewed in the story. That guy was a nutjob and his son (Josh) didn't seem to think anything about him was odd. |

This story, start to finish has been covered extensively locally, it is where it all started. What a tragic and sickening end to an unbelievable story.
Truthfully, not sure what the police could do in that short of time. Not sure anyone could have done something to stop this. If they would have sent someone at the time of the first call, the kids would have still been dead IMO.
I listened to both 911 calls, though I think the operator was slow on the uptake, it didn't appear to be negligence IMO. I am not even 100% sure the CPS worker knew the severity of this situation as it unfolded.
I also don't know what else the CPS worker, the police ect could have done. |

ohsix, I saw the same show and noticed the same thing.
E.J., I agree. I don't think anyone could have prevented this from happening that day. Maybe if things were done differently in the case in the past, this wouldn't have happened but who knows. _________________

jt09, but this wasn't just some random person. This was a CPS worker who just had children removed from her care and a door slammed in her face.
That in and of itself should have resulted in multiple squad cars rolling full cherries and berries toward that house at high speed.
I don't know what, if anything could have been prevented. But I for damn sure know when CPS calls 911, the cops need to drop whatever they are doing and descend on the scene pronto.
That is what is pissing me off about the story. Police priorities should have children in any kind of potential danger at or very near to the top of their list. _________________

why? a pissed off parent who doesn't want cps around when he sees his kids is a reason for cops to drop everything and rush to the scene of a......what? is there a high correlation between a cps worker getting the door slammed in their face and child murders? i'm betting not.
just because this particular incident turned out horribly doesn't mean the cops screwed up. |

jt09, dude it's CPS!!!
Their job is to PROTECT CHILDREN.
If one of their agents calls the police, it should result in multiple squad cars rolling full lights and sirens toward that location post haste!
It should be a top priority for the police to respond to that. These are children we are talking about, and slamming the door in the face of a CPS worker who brought the children over for SUPERVISED visitation should be treated EXACTLY like the children were just abducted. Why? Because that is what just happened! The father had no rights other than supervised visitation - if he removes the CPS worker from the situation then he has de facto abducted those kids. _________________

So let me get this straight?
A friend who's going through a divorce gets CPS called on him, the cops storm the house and take the kids by force, before even talking to him. Why? The bitter ex-wife who is a druggy (been in rehab 5 times) wants the kids for more money, so she said the father molested the kids (not true).
But when kids lives are in real danger with proof, cops won't come?
Great job CPS. You stupid f\/ckers. |

The cops did respond.....
Nobody is saying that the police did not respond.
Let's stay on track everyone. The issue lies with the 911 call and the operator saying that the police need to respond to life and death emergencies first(paraphrasing), but they would relay the information to the police. The CPS worker stated that she felt this may be a life and death situation, explained her situation, and the operator stated that he would relay the information. At this point, the house was in flames.
It is my understanding that all this happened within minutes of her going to the door. Even if the police would have been called at the first call, IMO, they wouldn't have been able to do anything. The sick phucker chopped the kids with a hatchet and had the home doused in fuel already.... He was an evil man with a plan, it is tough to stop such a person. |

| E.J., that was my understanding of the situation. if cops had been there, even at the time of the call, we probably have a dead dad, two dead kids, and some dead or seriously injured cops. |

E.J., totally agree with that.
The problem I have is the lacksadasical approach to a CPS worker telling the 911 operator that: 1) they are a CPS worker; and, 2) during what was supposed to be a supervised visit the children were taken away from the CPS worker.
That is kidnapping plain and simple, and every available person in uniform should be descending on that site posthaste.
Could more have gotten hurt? Maybe. It does sound like nothing could have been done by anyone to prevent this (outside of the moron judge allowing visitation), but that is beside the point.
Why am I pissed? Because, this hits way too close to home. During the trial phase, the murdering SOB that killed my SIL was barred from seeing his grandson, but my gut tells me that his dipf*ck father took him there anyway. If somehow we knew that happened, we were told that the police should be called (911) and both the child's father and the murdering grandfather would have been immediately taken to jail - do not pass go, do not collect $200. Immediately. CPS and the Judge were ADAMANT about this. _________________

When I first saw the report I was actually impressed that the CPS agent (or whatever they're called) detected a fuel smell, knew that something wasn't right, and immediately called the police rather than jack around with some supervisor or other report. My experience with CPS/social work types is that they are usually people who can't get teaching or counseling jobs and are not normally up for what their jobs require. Probably an unfair overall assessment, but it is mostly what I've seen. Anyway, this particular agent was all over it. Get her a sidearm.
The kids were probably already dead by the time the first call was made. Sad and sick. _________________

| I haven't gone to any of the links and this might be a really dumb question... but how do they know he chopped the kids with a hatchet if everything burned? |
