| Most regional jet pilots carry Luggage Works external, metal frame bags. They may be pricey depending on what you're used to spending for luggage, but I don't think you're going to find anything more durable. |

I have an Eddie Bauer branded carry-on rollerboard that has been flawless....but of course it is carry-on so it doesn't see the abuse.
I have an "Atlantic" 26" suiter for my big checked bag, and it has held up reasonably well. The top handle's rivets pulled out after some overloading of the bag, but I replaced the rivets with bolts and now the handle is solid. I am happy with the bag for a bang-for the buck situation.
Both of these bags have been my primary luggage for about 230k miles of flying. |

Ive tried expensive and cheap luggage....both fall apart after a couple of years of life as a checked bag. I'll look at Luggage Works next time around. _________________

| Purchase ugly luggage. As stupid as it sounds, way easier/faster to find your stuff and get out of the airport rather than sifting through a sea of black bags. |

| I've bought expensive (to me) and cheap luggage, and they all seem to last about the same amount of time, especially if I check it. Unfortunately, some of the airports I fly through require that I check my bag, and those airports are the same that seem to mangle my bags the worst. I typically find the cheapest bag with good wheels and zippers and use that. |

| I travel about 50 weeks per year. Like the others, I have had some cheap luggage (Atlantic, and some high end (Tumi), and after many years of travel and mostly carry-on travel, I have settled on one brand. TravelPro is the best high use, middle cost bags I have owned. Stay away from their cheap line, and get the Platinum line. If you don't like the TravelPro, some of the Victrinox (Swiss Army brand) does hold up well for the money. |

I know I haven't done a ton of air travel, but I have traveled a significant amount in my car over the last 18 months. My vote is for Ogio. The bag has been great over the last year w no tears and the wheels work great. You can definitely pack a ton in them. Growing up I used a couple Ogio Duffle bags when I'd travel playing in tournaments and 10 years later I still use the same bags. _________________

I've had good luck with a big Dakine rolling duffle bag that I got a while back (and a smaller duffle without wheels). I've traveled with it a lot and it's holding up really well. Nice thick fabric & a solid build on the wheels (those always seem to be the first thing that breaks on other bags for people that I know). Great amount of pockets/compartments and is a pretty huge bag. Got it a few years ago but I imagine the newer bags are just as good.
Nice thing too is that they've got a couple different patterns so you can get something that stands out from everyone else's but isn't too crazy looking. |
