|
|
About to buy a '08 Pathfinder, V6. Rated at 6000LB towing capacity.
Anyone see any issues with this rig launching my soon-to-be new boat ('11 Launch 21v) ? The 21v is 3800LB + about 1000LB for the trailer = 4800LB. I'm sure the pathfinder can pull it on the road just fine, but is there any concern about dropping it in the water (potential sliding??) or pulling it out?
Or should I bite the bullet and get a V8? I'd really rather not... |

| The more important question is whether it will be able to STOP the boat/trailer in a panic situation. |

I have an '05 pathfinder (V6) and towed an '05 supra 22ssv - which weight was ~3400 + trailer + goods. Also I believe the weight quoted is "dry" - no fuel - figure a few hundred pounds there too. I figure I was close to 5k lbs all in.
I trailer through rocky mountains so its not just flat and straight so it was working. I think that was pretty much max weight I felt comfortable with. Engine could pull it but you could really feel the weight behind the truck.
I also used the airride springs which helped leveling and handling alot.

Yes it will, but you will be able to tell the boat is back there big time. I would go with a bigger vehicle.
Since you are looking at Nissan...Armada maybe? |

It'll pull it, how much trailering do you do? If it's a few miles I wouldn't be scared of it, if you do long distances or a lot of hills I'd look for something bigger.
Unless the ramp is really steep or slick I wouldn't think you'd have any problems on a ramp as long as you take it easy. |

Hmm Armada? We want an SUV that will tow the boat and has 3rd row fold-down seating. From what I've found, a Pathfinder or a Commander is the only choice (trying to stay around $22k).
I've trailered a boat for the past 2 years and had no issues. Was pulling a 21' Aztec Sunstar (dry weight incl trailer = 4000 LB) with a '06 4Runner (V6). Never had any problems with it.
I trailer the boat only from my house to the lake - about 12-15 miles on relatively flat streets (Atlanta area). The boat ramps are right off a main street and I would consider them to be average concrete boat ramps. Never mossy...sometimes wet if lots of people are loading and unloading.
Any further input given all of this? |
