I think it's just an extra return line (short for this test). The way I picture it is that you pull the rider like a normal winch from the main spool and once they get back you disengage the pin to let the spool spin freely from the axle. Then, you hook the handle on to the other line shown in the video (which is attached directly to the axel and is always spinning) to bring the line back out to the start point.

this is just a test with a 50' rope of the same diameter the actual line will be, the standard rope will be 600' for a 300' return, the winch will run all day, you'll snowboard, ski, or tube down the hill, then you'll simply grab the line and let it pull you back to the top, that's what a rope tow does _________________ ☆PHOENIX WINCH☆

there will be 8" loops tied every 30-50' so you can either grab the loop or the knot _________________ ☆PHOENIX WINCH☆
