Love the interior setup. I am definately NOT a fan of the way the rubrail curves. They need to ditch that ugly tower ASAP too.

I think mastercraft is missing the point and going the wrong direction. Instead of trying to justify the cost by putting a bunch of fufu stuff in the interior, try get back to the basics of a quality wakeboat that is reliable. How much do you think that thing will cost to get worked on when all the mechanical stuff fails? Not smart if you ask me.

Maybe I'm missing the point though. I guess if you have enough money to buy an x-star, your not worried about money.

Also that one of the ugliest boat exteriors I have ever seen.

Just my opinion.

Do knee braces come as a standard option. If thats the way the wake industry is going no one past 23 is gonna have any knees left. That wake is nuts.

Such a ugly boat. They need to rebuild it affordable. Im not rich but I own a new A22. I could never afford that boat nor would I want to. The only thing I like about it is the flip up gauges.

Definitely don't like the direction the manufacturers are going of making these 90k plus boats. You don't need all that crap to make a good wake or make a rider better. Give me gauges that work and don't move up and down, Perfect Pass, built in ballast with easy add on bags, and regular tower that closer to 1500 than 7500. Think i basically described an Axis. Love my 03 SANTE but there is no way I can afford even close to the cost of these boats or especially a new 210. Maybe I am an in the minority and not as well off as most. Guess if you got the money this would be the boat to buy. I guess my biggest fear is all these new gadgets in boats are going to make them unattractive to buy when they get older than 3-4 years because they will cost so much to work on once the warranty has expired.

My next boat will be the 24 ft wakesetter. I initially went and looked at a X2. He could not exactly find something I liked that day. When I left they never called me back. I guess because I was 25 years old. Mastercraft has some decent boats, a cocky company crew, and over priced boats. I never knew axis was around until I saw a hot boat owned by cody oakes. I ended up owning one 2 months later. I laugh at the mastercraft dealer every time I use the boat launch across the water way.

People keep saying this about MC and Nautique, the thing is, loads of people can and do make a budget wakeboard boat and the competition is getting tougher.

Producing high end products is what keeps them different and keeps them profitable, selling to a market not quite as fussed about the dollars.

I can see how it makes sense to them, make themselves more and more aspirational. You don't see Ferrari making a budget family car and they do just fine.

Couldn't agree more. Assuming enough people are still willing to pay the money they are asking for these boats then it makes no sense to cater for budget boaters - that's what second hand boats are for.

This! Exactly.

I've owned 2 X-Stars now. I've never even owned another boat unless you include a Yamaha Exciter as a "boat".

I won't get a 2012 b\c my 2010 X-Star is still very new, plus I want to give them a year to work out the kinks. But assuming the boat is everything it seems to be, and throw the wake it apparently throws, then everyone can laugh at me in 2013 when I get one.

(I do agree on hating the tower, I love my 4-point. But everyone seems to be going to the 2-point towers for some reason.)

Best,

Dusty

Hard to make a judgement call without seeing the wake first hand, but based on their previous offerings I imagine it will be amazing. IMO and the guys I ride with, there's just not anything that can really compete with the current star as far as the wake is concerned. The rest of the boat I'm sure is neat but it doesn't really impact my enjoyment on the water.

Here's a few pictures I took at the show with my phone. It hurt my eyes to look at the thing, it was like sitting in a basketball.

If they would at least take the raised headrests off it, it wouldn't look so much like a transformer/playmobil/my-first-sony posers vessel. Still will, but maybe a little bit less...

Looks like crap in white... the black hides the lines a little... I actually like the look of it in the pics above, what I would expect for a 6 figure boat... I wonder what their margin is on this boat...

IMO, MC and CC are "missing the point" (and market share) only because they have not effectively targeted the "value" market the way Lexus/Toyota, Infinity/Nissan, Caddy/Chevy, Malibu/Axis, etc. have done... By only offering luxury models (besides stripped down base models) they are precieved as not caring about the average joe and are missing out on a huge customer base... and by the time they could get into the "value" market, Axis/MB/etc will own the segment.

Just my $.02

I kind of agree LaynDoor, if MC and CC would start sister companies and use the current X-Star hull and the old 210 hull as their base models like Bu did with Axis I think it would be a great move on both their parts.

I don't want to use the term stripped down, but just a no frills boat that is kind of a necessities only type deal. I was kind of dissapointed in the price on the Axis boats, seems like they try to promote that 45-50k price tag and my buddy was quoted 58 once we test drove it. Sounds like they're bumping the price this in 2012 too.

Axis does not stay in that price range anymore... mine was 68k msrp and the dealer wanted 58k for it. mine is loaded. they have a 2012 now that is nothing compared to mine and want 53k for it. does not even have plug n play.

I should say that from a distance, it looked pretty awesome in person overall. But when you walked up and stuck your head in, BAM! Orange overload.

Yeah all that orange is over-the-top hideous.

Question for you since you saw it in person. There is the seat next to the driver that raises and lowers. In front of that seat (towards the bow) I see 2 handles or something like that. Is that generic storage area between the seat and the bow? A cooler?

Best,

Dusty

I understand LaynDoor's point, however I am not certain if that is the best idea for all manufacturers. Putting out a new product would require a certain amount of business overhead and as more manufacturers are competing in the "price point" boat business, the returns and sales volume would potentially diminish.

I think that a better analogy for what LaynDoor is proposing would be Malibu's Wakesetter versus Ride series rather than Malibu versus Axis. IE an older hull design on a current model year boat rather than a boat like Axis that is mostly original (hence additional R&D cost) but shares some parts and the assembly line. Mastercraft has done this with the X1 for a while, and it apparently hasn't led to enough volume for them to continue doing it.

I think that if people stopped buying MC boats at a level to sustain the business, they would be forced to adapt (or be bought). Until then, I think that it's wisest for them to focus on their core market that apparently is willing to buy their product.

V8 Killer, I didn't really see it in action but it just looked like seats that folded up. not sure if there's acces underneath for storage. I think it may just be extra space for a built-in ballast tank so you don't have to worry about something above deck.

jjaszkow, People aspire to own the best of breed... separate brands are a must... Which is why the Axis will kill the Ride series... no one WANTS to own the bottom of the line up boat no matter what the name on the side... its human nature...

But back to the XStar... the first vid showing all the seating options... WOW... I cant think of a better seating system/arrangement... so versatile.

I like the interior. We looked at the Nautique at the boat show last year and my wife really like the seating arrangements. MC does the same thing but from the looks of it they do it better then last years Nauty. I think it's going to be HUGE win in our area. MC has all but taken over the water at every lake we go to these days. There is lots of disposable cash around these days so money doesn't seem to be as much of an object as other areas I don't think.

If the wake pops you like my boat, I would consider buying one for sure. Might have to wait till 2015 till I can afford one though!
