Winches come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and designs so post your finished product (not builds, etc.). What pulls you across the water at a high rate of speed? What would you do differently/better next time?

I'll kick things off: Here's my beast. I call it Sir Winchton Churchill. It's been the most reliable winch I've ridden behind (not to brag, I'm just proud I built something mechanical that works! haha). It's seen plenty of time at both the beach and in fresh-water ponds.

Before putting finishing touches on. (Didn't add wheels, paint the spool, or trim down the axle yet)

And a couple of the final product getting set up to pull for a wakeskate flatbar session a couple of weeks ago. (You can sort of see a wheel in the bottom of the last picture. Along with plenty of grease from hours of love)

I really like how she turned out but I'm planning to rebuild whenever I get some extra cash again (it turns out that houses take up a lot of disposable income, who knew?). I want to go with a slightly smaller frame and make it aluminum next time to save on some weight. Also, I'd make the spool a little smaller and figure out how to make it a bit stronger. The spokes going from one side to the other that rope wraps around is starting to bend a bit. Other than those changes, I'm really happy with how everything turned out. |
