I know i'm such a noob lmao! Well i have only been twice and i love wake boarding. Both times were deep starts NO problem getting up. (:

MAJOR Problem going straight. haha. Im regular so i guess I'm on my heels too much since i start to go left. I hit the wake caused by the boat and i fall. FAIL!

So i need help. Should i try leaning on my toes a little more so i can stay behind the boat?

Or should i try to learn how to get over that wake. IDK!

Stay over your toes a bit more. It might help to let go with your back hand and square your shoulders to the direction of the boat. If you're comfortable with turning a bit, try to get over the wake. The most important thing here is to not hesitate. Hesitation = catching an edge. Just start your turn and focus on keeping that edge all the way out in to the flats on the other side of the wake.

I feel your pain even tho Im goofy footed. I can get up no problem, but staying up now thats another story... lol Practice makes perfect. Strange thing is the first time since my lesson on my new board I was up and edging back and forth in the wake, I was a little scared to get out of the wake at the time and my legs got sore (outta shape damnit) so I packed it in for the day and went out the next day. Except the next day I was lucky to be able to stay up long enough to even try to get out of the wake lol So I'll try again tomorrow and might've been doin somethin rookie wrong who knows. I think I've got a bit too much hesitation now that I think of it. Have to keep telling myself NO FEAR lol Rolling Eyes

Here's some pointers:
-Concentrate on keeping your body balanced over the board, you're edging out heelside because you've got too much of your body weight on your heelside edge.
-If you find yourself going off the wake like you're doing, try to concentrate on keeping your board going in a line, I know some beginners tend to let the board rotate 90 degrees like you're doing a slide as they start to go over the wake and end up catching an edge and finish up with a nasty digger.
-When edging, think of it as wanting to lean on the back heelside or toeside corner of the board with the handle pinned to your hip

Don't get frustrated, just keep at it, and you'll be hooked even more once you start trying to hit the wake.

Get the handle out in front of your lead hip. Beginners tend to keep the handle in front of their stomach/chest like a water skier.

This^^^^

If you struggle with that, try taking your right hand off the rope and ride one handed for a bit. It will straighten your board out if you are sliding sideways. From there, start working on holding the rope handle at your left hip.

Thank you everybodyy Very Happy I'm excited to go out again and try a few of these pointers. I'm the type who gets really mad at myself when i do bad so I will just have to do my best to stick with it.

Last time i went with my friend it was both of our second time and she got all the way to the left before the wake came up and she did really well staying up. I got kind of discouraged when i was unable to do the same ):

I want to be better by next summer because we are prob gonna be doing it more.

Dont get discouraged, everyones different. A friend of mine came with me to give it a try when I took my first lesson. Id never done anything like this before (not even water skiing), and I was up first try everytime no problems. My friend on the other hand only took 1 try and only got 1/4 of the way up before he ate a lot of water and gave up. It's not for everyone, and some have a harder time getting it than others.

Which also makes it hard when ppl say is it easy!? lol Well its either really easy or I'm just gifted ? lol

Ok thanks. I usually give up pretty easily on things but for some reason i just kept trying. I ended up pretty bruised and sore the next day but went out the day after again Very Happy so i just hope i can get better at this so i can have more fun with it rather than getting up over and over again just to fall ):

just want to be good at it.

This was the best piece of advice given so far. If I may add a bit to this though. My niece does the same thing but not only is she holding the rope in front of her chest she is also in a seated squatting position to try to balance. The problem with this is the seated position is a natural heel carve position and you end up heel carving without noticing. Try to stand up a little taller and don't bend at the waist.

Just stick with it, and it should come to you. Some of these other tips have been pretty good, I would take their advice as well.
