Ive been doing wakeboarding once or twice a year for the last few years now, but this summer I am really looking to get into it.
I have a pretty ancient board - O'brien Ambush 143, but have just bought some 2011 Liquid Force Index's, which im super happy with.
Looking for tips on how to progress and starting to do tricks. The boat we use produces minuscule wake so Im finding it pretty difficult to get any air.
Im also wondering if I should take the centre fins out as this may help me to make surface 180s etc.
Basically im just asking for tips on how to improve, as theres only so much fun you can get from carving...
Thanks. |

Read the forums, subscribe to Learnwake.com, take some lessons and/or go to a camp, find other people that ride in your area. All of this to not develop (too many) bad habits, they can take a long time to get rid of. _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

Thanks for the advice.
I have another question; Why do some of the ropes have a diamond shaped bracket before the handle, as shown in the picture below? I dont have one of these and are they worth getting for my non-tower boat? |

Are you talking about the smaller handle?
That makes it easier to do 'wrapped' tricks. It's a different way to do tricks and isn't really necessary, just kind of opens up the option (although you can do wrapped trickes without one, it's just a little more difficult).
The key thing about the rope is that it's non-stretch. Just make sure of that and you'll be fine! |

By wrapped tricks do you mean like backrolls and all that jazz? Is it also true that by shortening the rope it creates a bigger wake? The wake my boat produces is so small.
Thanks again. |

go to learnwake.com and start watching "The Book" dvd on getting started, it will answer most all of your questions, then come back here to help straighten out any more detailed questions you will have, it's about $10/month and well worth it, heck if you ask the guy on here who runs that place he might hook you up with a free trial or something _________________ Lithic, LLC, my biz

Timify, Basically it's an easy way to spin. It'll let you grab for a bit longer and not have to worry about a handle pass on things like 360's, KGB's, basically anything with at least a 360 spin. A lot of times it's kind of a way to cheat it a bit and take out some of the difficulty. I've been wakeboarding for about 10 years and have never really used them. I think maybe I've tried a wrapped trick once to horrible failure... |

I would take some lessons. I am actually considering lessons myself. I haven't really been able to do any tricks. |

What they all said...
You don't need the rope with the small handle.
Learnwake is WELL WORTH $10 a month.
Find someone on the lake that you watch that is better than you and make friends. Wakeboarders, generally speaking, love other wakeboarders. I thoroughly enjoy teaching people how to do their next trick, almost as much as I enjoy landing my own trick for the first time.
And finally if you have the funding, take some lessons. Pro coaches are expensive but can cut your learn time by 10.
Best of luck!
