Okay, I finally got up on the wakeboard about a half a dozen times this last weekend, it was pretty awesome, but need some serious help. I am a big time snowboarder and I thought edging would be very similar but I don't think it is as I ride regular and once up, looking from behind the boat, I went to the left side and that is where I stayed. I am an old dog of 52 years, but I still have a lot of good tricks left in me. So any suggestions would be great. Also, how does everyone put their board on, in the water or on the boat? And how wide is everyones handle, I am presently using a ski rope and I think the handle is a little narrow. I would like something quite a bit wider. Again, thanks everyone for their words of guidance and in helping me get up! It is pretty sweet! |

I put the board on while hanging off the boat, then tighten it in the water (No swim platform for me)
I've used both 12" handles and 18" handles, the wider is nicer, but not necessary.
Edging just takes a little practice, watch some of the videos on youtube. |

The reason you edged out to the left of the boat without trying mostly has to do with handle placement. Most likely you were slightly bent at the waist, arms fully extended out in front of your chest and knees slightly bent.
What you want to do is stand a little more straight up, put a little more pressure on that front foot instead of trying to be so back heavy.
The handle should be held just in front of your lead(left for regular, right for goofy) hip. If you need to then let go of the handle with your back hand, straighten everything out the work towards getting your back hand on the handle again. Also both palms down towards the water. Trying to hold the handle like a baseball bat wont work.
Since you say you are an avid snowboarder edging should come pretty naturally or at leas you'll be able to grasp the concept of edging the board rather then turning the board. |
