Ok guys, recently I have come into a VERY large sum of money. I don't really wish to discuss that any further, but lets just say I'm set for life. Anyway, I'm looking for a new top of the line boat...and I have no idea where to start. For what I'm going to use it for, the majority of the time I'll only have 5 or 6 people on it so I dont need a mastercraft x80 or something, but I'd still like something with a decent amount of room and space to accommodate maybe 10-12 once in a while. I was thinking somewhere around 22-25 feet? It will be used for some wakeboarding obviously in addition to skiing, tubing and just general cruising, so I need a solid all around boat. Also, looks are pretty important to me as well since I'm no professional boarder. As for brands, I'm not a huge fan of the new mastercrafts looks wise, though I know they're good boats (but I'm not concerned about resale value). I really like Malibus, Supras, some nautiques and I think some of the higher end Tige's look awesome, I just don't know a lot about them. So basically guys, where should I start? What should I be looking at? Obviously I'm going to test drive before I buy but I just am looking for some general advice/a general direction to head in. Thanks in advance guys!

Haha are you the one with the SANTE 230? I'm considering that as one of my options, how do you like it? (and sorry, I'm buying new so I can customize everything myself lol)

Pretty sure Chattwake has an Axis A22 Vandall edition... too lazy to search tho.

Congrads on the inheritance or good fortune of money. Before you blow a good chunk on a wakeboat, might want to buy a house or something thats going to retain value more than a boat to ensure your financial security and pick up a gently used wakeboat?

Just seems a tad more practical to me, many of those who fall into a great deal of money don't know how to manage it ( not saying you don't) and up squandering it in only a few years and wined up broke.

If I had an unlimited budget, I'd buy a 2012 Axis A22. I owned an XStar, VLX and 3 230's. The A22 produces the best, most consistent, wake I've ever ridden. If you don't care about a huge wake, and are focused more on creature comforts, I'd either buy a new XStar when it is released, X25, or SANTE 230. However, be prepared to spend 100k for one of those boats - as opposed to ~ $60k for the '12 A22 with the big motor option.

There are a lot of great points made above. IMO I would buy a lake house first with a boat dock/house so you will actually get to maximise the fun of your new boat. Even if i was set for life i don't think I would buy a brand new boat unless it was an axis A22. If you don't like the axis for some reason get a one year old 230 that way some one else took the depresiation hit. I don't know how "set" you are but it just doesn't make sence to throw away 10's of thousands of dollars for the same boat.

I like the boat house idea. As far as boats, there are so many to choose from it makes it kind of tough. Chattwake has a very strong point for the A22. If you want function and good looks without super blingy stuff, that's the way to go. Otherwise I'd probably look at flagship boats in the Malibu, Nautique and Supra lines...pick their largest and have a really cool big boat you can takes lot of friends on.

Maybe you should also start up a foundation for underprivileged kids to take them out on the water and get a boat set up for that, too. I'd be glad to help be your driver, and maintenance tech along with assisting in marketing and promoting the organization. Mr. Green

x-25
Nautique 230
Tige RZ4 (just rode behind that last week, wow nice boat, HUGE surf wake and it had a decent wakeboard wake) New tiges are nice and come with wetsounds speakers. It's a big boat though, so not sure if you want something that big.

I hear they are coming out with the new star for 2012. You might want to hold off and pick that one up.

Malibu or Nautique. For new there are very few comparisons when it comes to unlimited budget.

Yes, there will be some that will argue their price point boat, or budget boat, or used boat is the same. They are not. When it comes down to a BRAND NEW boat, those two are the top of the line for a reason.

Their fit, finish, detail, and performance make them that way.

Any of the New Malibus, VLX, LSV, or 247, would be on my list. And for the Nautiques, the 230 or 210 Byerly Edition (rode behind one last weekend) would be my boats.

I'm a Supra owner, through and through. But only for the older classics. I like the new ones, but if I'm dropping that much money, I'll get the best. Which in my opinion is Malibu or Nautique.

Haven't been in the game for a while but whatever happened to Epic as a boat manufacturer?

The criticism of Tige is from the early 2000's (when I owned one). The new Tige's are turning some heads right now and I hear great things. Of course there's always Malibu, Correct Craft, and Mastercraft in the mix. That being said I'm still a big fan of the Sanger V215 and V210 for wake and handling.

I think all boats being on the table it would be time to start demoing, ALL of them. Go to the dealership and lay it out there maybe take a few days off and see what dealer wants to roll out the carpet for you. Because as important as the wake, fit and finish is to this purchase the local dealership is a huge component to that purchase as well. And while you may decide it is between two boats I would go with the boat who is sold and serviced by the best dealership.

I'd do an X25 if the wake isn't the primary concern, I have no experience with the wake, but the seating options in that boat are awesome. If you want an amazing wake it's hard to beat an X-Star. A buddy of mine has a VLX and we test drove an A22 with around 4k ballast and they just don't hold up to the X-Star wake imo.

I think a 230 murdered out will give you pimp daddy status on the water since that is a concern plus it's a bad arse boat.

None of the above boats will give you the ski wake you talked about. Unfortunately your needs list will require at least two boats maybe three. fortunately you have an unlimited budget. My picks would be.

Nautique 200 for skiing none better.
Nautique 210 or 230 surfing and boarding top of the line.
Cobalt 26' or larger cruising with 12 0f your friends.

It sure would be nice to have this kind of problem.

For the guy above, I'd rather not have to deal with 3 boats, just one that does a decent job with everything. I don't need a top of the line ski boat, just something for ocassional skiing. I know I originally said I wasn't into mastercrafts, but after doing a little research I'm starting to warm up to them. I think right now the top of my list is the X-35, the malibu 23lsv, and the Nautique 230. Possibly the Tige RZ4, just need more info on it.

None of those except the 23 are capable of skiing. Since you have an unlimited budget and are not going to get any kind of water sport boat. You should go with the MC 45-55 or 300. I will be anxiously waiting for pics of your new boat if it ever happens.

This is what I'm talking about if you are looking at a 230. Gently used but 10's of thousands off the price. Fully Fully loaded. Chatwake knows this guy so ask him some questions. Take it for a test run and see if you like it. Take the thousands you save and put towards a lake house.

What about this one? I'm not usually a fan of the mastercraft graphics, but I'm really digging the custom ones on here. It seems pretty loaded and has only 17 hours

I have a buddy that just picked up a a22 and it seem's like it's already starting to fall apart. They seem like they are defiantly a price point boat and just thrown together.

How about a carbon fiber resin infused Epic 23v with an 8.2L engine and a stripper pole.? Cool

I just figure it would be easier than going through the whole process of ordering one if I could find one with everything I wanted, plus then I wouldn't have to wait for it to be built. And by used, I mean extremely lightly used, like just as a test or demo boat. Under 30 hours or so, so pretty much brand new.

The boat came from deep creek marina, and it's new. He just picked it up form the first service and they are addressing some of the issues. Waiting for a swim plat form and the prop to get repair'd now.
You can pm me if you need some more info/ what you need his information for etc etc. The dealer is handling the issues. I just think the quality in the boat's are not there.

Absolutely bizzare. I have not heard of anyone having these kinds of problems. I have 5 friends with 2011's, and none of us have had any major issues at all.

What seat are you talking about coming off the hinges, btw? The only seat that is attached is the driver's seat. I've taken mine out before during a stereo install. How in the world could it have come off? There are four huge bolts holding that guy in!

The boat was bought the last week of may, so I'm sure that's not the case.
