I have an 07' B52V. It has a 330 hp PCM engine in it, but will barely pull me up skiing. It will only run about 30mph top speed, and with the ballasts full and a couple people in the boat it won't even plane out. Any ideas or suggestions what might be wrong with it? Prop? Throttle cable? TPS?
Thanks |

| not sure on the fuel filter. I just got the boat. The guy before me let it freeze and it has a new engine in it. I would think they put a new one in, but they probably cut every corner they could with the new engine |

| yeah, with my luck it's probably a 4 cylinder out of a wrecked 87' probe or something. Not sure on the prop. I'm sure it's just the stock prop MB Boats used in 07 |

In a way it sounds like its in limp mode. If you put it in neutral and rev it does it respond well. Also when coming out of the hole with no weight or boarder, does get with it or lolly gags. _________________ Rider: "Howd that last trick look?"

| It still is slow empty, but much better. With no ballast and 2 little kids and my wife driving it took about 100 yards to plane out and get to 30mph with me on slalom, and I know how to make myself light and easy to get out of the water. Limp mode? Never heard of that. I had a boat place put it on the computer when a wire melted recently and it was not getting any fire. Would limp mode not have showed up then? |

Limp mode is where if the computer detects an irregularity in performance, and goes into like a safe mode where you can still make it home. It will limit the motor so that you cant turn up so many rpms. It could be a number of things. Knock sensor, Low oil pressure, Over heating, Tranny/V-drive low fluid. Since yours is EFI and fly by wire, youll have to have someone with a computer run a diagnostic out on the lake when it does it. If they just run it on a hose in the shop, chances are nothings going to show up since there is no load on the motor. _________________ Rider: "Howd that last trick look?"

| Limp mode won't let you get over about 2500rpms so if you're hitting 30 I doubt that's it. There would also be an alarm going off or a light flashing. What type of rpms are you seeing? It could be the wrong prop. Is that motor throttle by wire or cable? If it's cable I'd almost suspect the throttle cable wasn't properly adjusted when the new motor was installed. |

I wouldnt think there would be a question about the prop being all they did was replace the motor. Unless the previous owner took the prop off and stuck one on before he sold it. I didnt think about the throttle cable being that its a late model boat with a PCM in it. Another thought is it could have the wrong plugs in it. _________________ Rider: "Howd that last trick look?"

| Couldn't I, with very limited knowledge about boat motors, but a pretty sharp dude, check that throttle cable. It feels like the throttle only works about 1/2 way; then you have about 6" of nothing like the perfect pass is cutting it off or something, but of course I have the pp turned off. |

The perfect pass could definitely be your problem, if it is out of adjustment it will not allow your boat to reach full throttle. Check here first and let us know what you find. _________________ 2003 Mastercraft Xstar w/ the 6.0 Cadillac |
