We are hoping to upgrade from our 89 Malibu Skiier. My husband and I both still enjoy skiing every now and then but are three kids are really wanting to do more wakeboarding and wakesurfing. We would love to find something with ballast but our price point is about 15K or less. Of these two boats does one stand out over the other for a wakeboard wake. The Nautique is 15K and the MC is 13K. Both have towers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a 205 around that model year for a couple of years and all I have is good things to say about it. When weighted properly it had a nice wake. We never had any problems with it and it was still all original with everything in good shape for the age. A bag on each side of the engine cover and one in the bow was all the weight it needed. It also had a good ski wake. It served both purposes well.

I have no experience with the Nautique in that age range. I had a 2007 Nautique and loved it as well. However, I would be hard pressed to believe that the build quality between those two boats is going to be substantially different.

Not familiar with the Sport Nautique, but the MC 205 will put out a really good wake for boarding, and also puts out a pretty decent ski wake. It might be a bit over your price range, but I'd also look at the Nautique Super Sport (V-drive).

I had a 92 Sport and it threw a really nice wake. The 205 will do the same. I would go with the one that was in the best condition. $2k isn't much difference when you consider the potential problems you could be in for.

I really like that 205 wake though.. I may lean towards that one. But condition/maintenance/care should be your driving force. Both are great boats for the era, and price. Those are the 2 models I would recommend in your situation.

These are two boat im going to be looking at soon to purchase. All the nautiques super sports are v-drives and the nautique sports are d-drive if im not mistaking. IMO I have found a few super sports(v-drive) out there in the $14,000 range asking price. Im pretty sure this is the route im going down. If it has a tower great, if not i can put one on that looks good to me. Towers, ballast, and PP are easy upgrades. The hull is what really matters and this is one of the best and its a v-drive.

Thank you all so much for your advice. Hoping to check them out this weekend. Also interested in the Sanger v210's and maybe a malibu sunsetter that has a wedge. It would be nice to find something where we wouldn't have to fill and trip over fat sacks.

Good luck. It's hard to find anything under $18k that has factory ballast. But, like mentioned above, for a little $$ you can have some installed.
