I am in the market for a new wakeboarding boat. my budget is $40,000. I currently own a 92' Ski Nautique that I added a tower, stereo/speakers, ballast, and perfect pass to. I want something that can hold more people with an open bow and v-drive. Also, more reliable.

My search has narrowed to the Axis22 and Mobius LSV or XLV. Anyone have advice or experience on these boats that will help me make my decision?

I found this LSV. Is this a good deal?

I'm a huge fan of the A22. I've owned a Prostar, XStar, several 230s, a VLX and an A22. IMO, the A22 produces the best wake I've ever ridden.

For 40k or less, you'd be looking to buy a used, probably 2009, A22 with the standard motor and some hours. However, that boat will hold its value and provide you with great performance, all the core creature comforts you need, and plenty of interior room.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with moombas. One of our crew does have an older LSV. It's a nice boat, but the wake's not comparable to the A22 IMO. That being said, Stangkiller has a really nice looking Moomba, and he seems to be really happy with it. If I were you, I'd go demo an A22 and a few Moombas and make your own educated decision.

If you were to decide to spend a little more, you should be able to get a newer A22 with more options or, I'm sure, a newer or new Moomba. The big motor option for the A22 is about 5-6k (it's nice to have if you intend to run more than the standard plug n play bags), solid gel schemes cost more, the tricked out trailer package costs more, etc.

To give you an idea as to what a lightly used decked out A22 would cost, I'll be putting my 2011 A22 up for sale in September or October, with less than 100 hours on it, for somewhere in the mid 50's. My boat has every possible factory option, the big motor, tricked out trailer, z5 rack, and full wetsounds system (including 2 485's 2 syn4's, 6 xs650's, 1 syn1, XXX 12, ws420 eq), and some custom interior lighting.

Good price on the new LSV. I have an XLV and like it a lot. Its an 08 and now I am looing at either a new Moomba or A22. PM me if you have specific questions about the xlv.

I'm not a fan of pickle fork boats they remind me of a tri hull . Everything I have heard about the Axis is its a economy entry level boat that puts out a great wake board wake. The swim platform drags if you surf some actually remove the platform for surfing. I dont know what it will do for skiing. At your budget it will be tough to buy a new Axis. You can probably get a new Moomba. As far as used be careful to follow up on the warranty transfer. There is usually a charge to maintain the warranty on all boats. My only advice is to test drive/ride all boats before you buy. You can get info on what your Nauti is worth on the CorrectCraftFan forum.

Yeah, the picklefork look really turns me off. I think that is why I have been leaning towards the moombas. If I am going to drop 40 grand on a boat, I sure as hell want to feel proud of the boat when I look at it. I am stuck between getting a used XLV or a new LSV. I would love the extra space in the XLV, but not sure If I want to by used to get it. Will prices drop if I wait for the 2012's to come out?

We have a 2010 LSV with stock GIII balast (1200 lbs). No complaints about the boat. Fit and finish is decent and its a good all around boat. Lots of room and the wake plate really helps in different water conditions. Wake is nice at 1200 lbs I can only image what it would be like with more.

Can't give any feedback on the A22. I have only seen one in a showroom and it looked nice but seemed utilitarian, but thats not an issue if your just out to board all the time.

Have the hulls changed at all on the Moomba LSV or XLV over the years. I am considering buying used now and want to make sure the older versions are not completely different boats.

what will be your next boat chat? sticking with an axis?

Yes. I'll be ordering a 2012 A22 as soon as I sell mine.

I've enjoyed owning my A22 probably more than any other boat I've ever had. I have had zero problems with the boat. The wake is always amazing. The surf wave is more than adequate for my friends and I, and I was able to pay cash for this boat, as opposed to having to finance prior boats that I have had.

It's nice not to have a huge monthly payment.

Suprahunter,

Here's what's going on with the platform. If you load the boat too heavy in the rear for surfing, the platform will drag slightly, which can cause wash in the wave. What I do is fill the front plug n play ballast, the rear surf side ballast, about 700lbs on top of the rear surf side ballast, no wedge, no center ballast, and run about 11 mph, and the wave is nice. Because the nose is weighted heavier, the pocket is long, and the wave is not quite as tall as what I was used to with my 230s. However, I find the wave to be perfectly acceptable for me, and novices can still ride with no rope no problem.

However, my understanding is that there may be an option in the works for those who want a taller, cleaner wake... I may be able to post pictures at some point...

Oh, I can talk about it now. For 2012 Axis redesigned the platform of the A22 and A20. The new platform was developed specifically for surfing. It is my understanding that, with this platform, the surf wave is ginormous and perfectly clean.

I have one waiting for me at my local Axis dealership. I plan on picking it up this week and trying it out this weekend. I'll post up some pics.

I have an '09 Moomba XLV. I like the boat but if I had to do it all over again I think I would go with the LSV. The XLV is really nice but the playpen bow is kinda a pain in the arse. I have small children and they seem to be the only ones that use the bow. The XLV's wake is a bit tricky to get tuned in on both sides. You pretty much have to ride at 23 or 24 to get a clean wake on both sides in my experience. It makes it a pain when you want to slow things down for beginner riders. I do however love all the storage. Overall I love my boat but I dont think I would have been disappointed with the LSV either.

I have the XLV and the Playpen bow for the kids is one of the things we like best. In canada it can be cool while we ride so we leave the snap on cover on, crank the heaters and the kids love playing in there. Plus we rarely have people in the front so by leaving the cover on which keeps out all the wind.

I have found on my XLV that weighted (2600lbs all hidden) you can run at about 21.7 or faster on 60 feet for beginners and longer/faster for better riders. below that you need to empty some ballast but really, for people who want to ride at 18 or 19 mph, I don't think ballast is really necessary anyways.

What I really like on the boat is the space ad storage.

Well, the 2011 Moomba LSV for $44,000 was to good to be true. That price was before adding in $13000 in extra options and $1000 in prep and freight.

We decided new boats were too expensive, so we are looking into used. I need some opinions on the boats we are interested in. I have no experience with Moomba boats. What model year is too old? I have seen some 2004's and 2005's that I like.

2006 is when they changed the hull on the LSVs, it is the identical hull as my 2011 LSV.
steer clear of the XLV if you go on the forums (which are down now for 2 weeks) everyone has a horrible time getting the wakes clean. i have tried to ride one on a few occations and it was unusable.

i also owned a 03 LSV which is the older hull. it was a great boat as well with a great wake.
pre 06 hull is 20-8"
06+ is 21'-6" it is also 2" wider, and taller/deeper too.

storage is MUCH better in the 06+ the seats underneith are nearly twice as deep.

Thanks for the advice. I am definately leaning toward the LSV now. I would love the extra space, but am not willing to give up a good wake for it.

My wife and I have really struggled with this decision. It is hard to justify dropping so much cash on something we would only use for 3-4 months out of the year. I think we have decided to hold off for one more year and save up some more money.

If a killer wake is a huge concern, I would definitely demo both a used Axis A22 and a LSV before you make any final decisions. That way, you know what you're buying. I'm sure the LSV wake is nice, but I know the Axis wake is the best I've ever ridden.

Doug where are you from? 44K plus another 13K plus another 1K is WAY more than what I paid for on my 2009 XLV and I bought mine brand new.

I am from Kansas City. This dealer is from Indiana though. After a few emails he told me it was on sale. $8000 off, which brought it down to $50000. I told him that was still too much and now he is saying Moomba is coming to the World's wakeboarding competition in Indiana and offering $2500 off to anyone who buys a 2011. So the price is now $47500. I told him if he came down to $45000 I would seriously consider it.

Does anyone know if catalytic converters are going to be standard on 2012 models. It would be nice to not have to suck down so much nasty exhaust.

I've ridden both (Axis and LSV) and prefer LSV but my home boat is a 2011 Moomba LSV. So I guess I'm a little bias Wink

Yes all 2012 Supra/Moomba boats sold in US will have the Cat engines as standard. The price also went up to reflect the upgrade

The a22 produces the best wake I've ever ridden, but, obviously, it all depends on what you like.


I'd like to see some pictures of the new lsv wake with like 3k over stock in the boat at 22-23 mph at 75ft so I can get an idea what lsv owners are shredding. I hope I get a chance to take a set behind one some day soon.

Your right, it depends on what you like. And I like the LSV. Smile The original poster just needs to test out the wake on both boats to determine what floats his boat LOL
