So everytime I over-rotate my backroll and drag my back arm over the tail my shoulder subluxes and leaves me in pain for at least a few days. This last time out it was the worst ever as I caught a heelside edge and came out of both slingshot boots. Now I've ordered a book on how to treat my own rotator cuff through exercise and stretching but my question is on braces. I found a donjoy sully and I remember chattwake sayin he rode a donjoy kneebrace. So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with shoulder braces and if 140 for this donjoy would be worth it? Any advice is appreciated unless that advice is to take a season off [/code] |

| have you been to the dr and had mri to see exactly what your problem is? now they can fix a lot of shoulder problems arthroscopically and the recovery is fast. i've had both of mine repaired and after the first one i was back skiing 12 days after surgery. waited until the winter to have the second done, but was only out of work for 2 days. pain free now and results are very much worth the inconvenience of surgery. |

| No I haven't been. I'm trying to avoid goin through the whole, family doc/ xrays, then ortho/ mri and then of course the bill. So since its not unbearable pain and it only hurts me when I take a wakeboarding fall and not during workout or anything else, I want to try and strengthen it on my own. |

| I don't blame you at all. That is good that it doesn't hurt all the time. I'm sure there are tons of braces that you can wear to just keep your arm in closer to your body and keep it from twisting/bending in painful positions. I saw one in particular that don joy makes but it is specifically for AC joint. What arm position is most painful for you? external rotation away from body or just above shoulder level? I did see the sully online and it looks like it would be effective and good quality. In my opinion $140 is well worth avoiding the cost of medical bills. |

| Right now it actually hurts in a lot of positions, over shoulder and external rotation. But I'm on an aleve regiment for a week or so to hopefully get through the inflamation. I might bite the bullet and just get the sully, any support added to my shoulder while boarding has got to be better than nothing |

| Would be good if you could try on a few braces before buying to see how much support they have....but not sure where you could do that. I just dropped $450 on a custom knee brace and that was after insurance paid for part of it, but it is well worth it if it prevents another surgery. already had 3 on that knee. be careful with the aleve. my husband is in med school and currently in his 3rd semester of pharmacology. he tells everyone that aleve is great for inflammation, but not to take it consecutively for more than 10 days to 2 weeks. says it is terrible on your liver if taken for long periods of time. he says that it is probably the best of those type drugs you can get over the counter. |

Had exactly the same problem, and tried a few braces, but they didn't help for stuff! Also tried building up muscle for a long time, but keeping to sublux the shoulder apparently screwed it so much up, that it could not be saved without surgery..
I took the surgery, and it normally takes minimum around 6 months to recover from. I did really well and seriously on my rehab, so I was ready for a little action already after 4 months though.
Go see a doc! _________________ Boarder from Denmark |
