I decided to see what I could do with the wheels on my trailer. I got the aircraft paint stripper and went to work trying to remove the cloudy clear coat. That stuff works great. It took 1-2 coats with about a 10 minute wait time to remove the clear coat. A good wipe down with solvent, polish and viola.

I think they look much better.

dizzlestoy, good eye.

Hogger, as a matter of fact one of the tires is new. I discovered a staple in one of the older tires when I got home with the boat. The tire shop wouldn't fix it since the two holes were so close together so I ended up buying a new tire.

lol, wouldn't fix it because the holes were so close? I was a tire guy for four years. That is a new one on me. A lot of tire shops are shady. If they were close.. then one patch would have sufficed.
Your wheels look great.

I seem to recall him saying something about drilling out both holes and their policy is to only use one patch per hole or something. I wasn't paying real close attention because my mind was more on dealing on a new tire. The tire was old enough that the idea they weren't keen on patching it was enough fo me to consider getting a new one.

So I guess aircraft paint stripper doesn't harm tires?

I actually protected the tires during the process to make sure there wasn't any overspray did a wipe with mineral spirits following the spray process just in case. Then after the fulll removal process and wipe with mineral spirits, the entire wheel and tire was washed thoroughly with cleaner and water.
