Hey y'all,

Today I had an awful day on the water. I was just warming up for my first set with a surface backside 180. I got lazy because I've done this trick many times and I fumbled the handle pass, putting my catching hand through the handle almost to the elbow. I got pulled over my heelside edge, and the handle caught on my forearm and jerked violently up and over my wrist, pulling my bracelet and glove off.

It didn't really hurt, but I got freaked out when I saw this huge lump on my forearm. It looked like something had popped out Shocked! I knew it couldn't be that serious because the pain was minimal, but neither I nor anyone else in the boat had ever seen anything like it and I really didn't know how to react. I decided to stick it out while other people rode, and over the next two hours, the swelling went down enough for me to get in one attempt at a W2W 360 before the boat's engine crapped out Mad.

What kind of injury is this? Is it at all serious? I'm planning to put in a hard day of riding tomorrow. Should I back off or be concerned?

Thanks!

looks like SWELLBOW! Weird though, I've never seen one from wakeboarding before, but I've had a few from skateboarding (not me just some pic i found on the googles).

Apparently it's technically called Olecranon Bursitis (i'm just learning this now, haha)

Holy #$@% that looks awful! I suppose it could be that, but it's nowhere near my elbow Confused

It held up just fine today but I'd sure like to know what it was.

Never seen anything like it man. If it doesnt hurt a whole lot I wouldn't worry a ton about it. The only thing I could think of is if you stripped some tendons and then they bunched up cuz they got busted but I guess I feel like you'd notice (have a lot more pain) if that were the case.

Nothings worse that making an injury worse by not treating it right, but if it feels normal I'd probably just ride (if not conservatively) for another day.

Ibuprofin wouldn't hurt either - would reduce inflammation if that were the problem.

It's a hematoma. Just a collection of blood under the skin most likely. I did the same thing years ago.

That makes sense. I took Ibuprofen to reduce the initial swelling, but now it's just a purpleish-yellow bruise. I think it's healed up just fine.

Ouch, yeah I did the same thing on an Ollie bs180 like 8 years ago. Handle slammed down my bicept, impacted my forearm before I got free. I thought it dislocated my shoulder, but man, my entire arm was black and blue for a month. If I were to guess, I'd say you'll be fine.

So perhaps you'll forego the "bracelet and glove" next time you ride? Laughing

Seriously though, glad its nothing serious.

Haha luckily the glove floated with the bracelet still stuck on the wrist and my buddy nabbed it for me.
