Hey peeps, just getting into the sport of wakeboarding and was needing to know which board I need to look at getting. I am 5'10 and weigh about 230 lb. I am 31 years old and over the last couple of years have put on a couple of pounds (ok more than a couple) but plan on using this sport as an activity to help lose some weight (on top of the gym). I read where I need to look at a board that is over 144, any other ideas or suggestions?

Also I am in the Memphis, TN area and will be boarding at Smith Lake in Bama. Anybody know any board shops in the Memphis area??

I would look in the 142+ size board range. check out a package deal from one of the major companies like LF, HL, CWB, Ronix etc. You can get a good setup in the $299-350 price range that will work for you. You are going to get your best deal on a package setup so that is what I recommend to all the new guys.

Also, all of the online retailers have closeout deals on last years' models. Its all brand new and most of the time, the only thing that changes is the graphics and the colors. Check out the clearance sections.

www.buywake.com
www.the-house.com
www.evogear.com
www.grizzly-sports.com
www.wakeside.com
www.closeoutdude.com
and of course,
www.ebay.com

One last thing, don't get hung up on board size. Like Flix said, anything in the 142+ range will suit you just fine. Make sure you get some good quality, proper fitting bindings.

Oh, and welcome to WB. com
