Looking to take a trip in March to Arizona to watch some Spring Training baseball and play a little golf. Would like to keep the cost as low as possible for lodging due to what I've been told are high costs for decent golf in the area.

Would like a 4-5 day trip. Anyone have suggestions on good lodging deals, decent courses that won't cost me out the nose, etc. before I go looking on hotwire, priceline, etc.?

Thanks!

what's more important. Watching the baseball or going out for drinks in the evenings?

My buddy has a place in Surprise which is on the north west side of Phoenix and said that's where a bunch of spring training facilities are. Hotels in that area are going to be cheap, but there is NOTHING to do around there in the evenings.

Scottsdale will be more expensive but way more fun inthe evenings and will be better area to stay. You need a car anyways so you might as well drive to the baseball during the day and then you can stay in Scottsdale and cab it around at night in the area your staying...

That's what i'd do.

You will definately want to spend your nights in Scotsdale.

As for golf, it will be expensive then because it is still relatively cool. You can find much cheaper golf in July. Laughing

stay in either south scottsdale/Tempe or Peoria(westside). both are good proximity to the ball fields.

How good of a golfer are you? Price will depend on location and 'niceness' of the course.

night life will be fine at either location listed above.

glad to help with further info, just let me know.

I'm hopping in on this. I'm going to be in Scottsdale for 3 or 4 days for a wedding, 2 days will probably be free-time. Any bars or good local restaraunts I should hit?

be careful w/ the cabs. they are unregulated in phoenix, so they are free to charge what they want. treat it like mexico - get a price or an agreement BEFORE you go anywhere.

Thanks guys. It will probably just be me, my wife, and our 5 year-old son so I'm not really all that worried about the nightlife for this trip.

Mostly just want a decent (not luxurious but decent) place to stay and to play some golf on an average to above average course there when it comes to price/difficulty. I'm a 10 handicap but I'm not a golf snob when it comes to course difficulty. As long as the course is in decent shape I don't complain much. My son is starting out so I want to be able to involve him too.

The only place I have golfed in that area was at the Phoenician. Not sure if you want to blow that kind of dough, but with the wife and kid in tow, it may be a nice one stop shop for you.

I spent a week in Scottsdale a couple of years ago and we stayed at the Westin Kierland. It's similar to the Phoenician, super nice hotel, super nice golf course, high price for both. There is a shopping area across the street from it with some nice restaraunts, bars, shops, etc. The Fashion Square is also a really nice shopping, dining place if you're wife is looking for any shopping while you're there. We spent quite a bit of time in the Arts District as well.

If you have time I would highly recommend a trip out to Sedona and the surrounding Red Rock Country. We spent a day out there seeing the sights, etc. and it was well worth the drive out.

Pet575,

what type of hotel you looking for? you a Hyatt type person or a budget suites type person?

if you want something that, i think, is middle of the road you could try OrangeTree in scottsdale.

Not exactly super close to the ballparks, but it may serve your purpose.

If you like the giants, this resort is about 8 or so miles away from where they do spring ball.
