We just got a new boat and the interior speakers are all no good. In 2004 the speakers were mounted behind the vinyl with a cloth mesh over the hole to hid the speakers. We are wanting to mount the speakers on the outside of the vinyl and was wondering has anyone done this? If so what is the best method.

There is a small fiberglass cup that holds the speakers perfectly, but we weren't sure if we should just pull the piping around the cupping and screw directly into the vinyl.

If anyone has any pictures of an upgrade job they have done it would be awesome.

Well I have done some research and think I have figured it out. I will post pics of how I did it for those that need to do the same. The project starts tonight and should have it finished this weekend.

I made this project pretty simple. Cut out the mesh. Removed the speakers. This required taking the side panels off in the front and the back. Got some long stainless bolts that would fit through the new speaker grills. Put the grills on how I wanted them. Got a drill bit and went through the grill, vinyl, and out the back of the panel. Bolted those suckers straight in. Did not remove the plastic rings as those were the solid back that the speakers ran up flat against for their support.
