I heard on sports radio he is making mid 6 figures at UW now.
Edit** just read it 3 more times.

This is a HUGE double down by UW on defense. Holt was the highest paid D-cord in Pac at 600. Now they are paying D-line coachs 500 Shocked

Green with envy, I would say.

if by mid 6 figures, you mean $500,000/yr, then yes - that's what has been reported. lotta money for a position coach. that's more than texas pays any position coach and they overspend.

I think the Alumni and Woodward (AD) have had enough of the past decade, and they are having an "Oregon Moment". That is when Phil Knight asked Mike Belotti what it would take to build a program and the wallet was opened.

The initial change of Sark and Holt was the right move and improvements were made. Now three years later it's clear the defense is not maintaining pace so another change needed to be made. Coupled with the timing of Larry Scotts rainmaking the funds were there to do it.

I think the long term play on this is that Wilcox will jump to be a HC somewhere in the next few years and we may have promised Lupoi to be the DC "in waiting" if you will.

I was hoping Ellis McCarthy would be a possibility to head this way, but it sounds like he has already switched to UCLA....Bubb Rubbin Mora.

Now I am really confused.

I thought that UW already had a program that all others should be jealous of Confused

If Wilcox/Sirmon/Lupoi don't make serious headway it will be FUN to watch the boards in 3 years.

I hope he doesn't leave with Wilcox, but if it happens it means they were successful here and that's all I can hope for right now.

Someone on Montlake must have done a forward cash flow on the money they are putting into the "mistake by the lake" and realized they are all in anyway.

alabama is such a messed up place. 13 years for the tree killer? on a plea deal? and the dude is going to go to a jury trial? in auburn? wtf?

Quote:
Harvey Updyke, the Alabama fan who is accused of poisoning the famous oak trees at Toomer's Corner at Auburn University, turned down a plea offer from prosecutors that would have required him to spend 13 years in prison and never attend a Crimson Tide sporting event for the rest of his life, a source close to the case told ESPN.com on Friday.

jt09,
Not so much for killing a tree, but more so for poisoning the soil. The amount of the chemical he used is enough to not let anything grow there for years. He's lucky it never made it to the water table.

How big is this Toomer's Corner? Couldn't they haul off the old trees and soil and replace with new trees and soil for less than $200,000? I'd fine him the cost of remediating everything, give him a couple hundred hours of community service, a year or two probation and call it good.

ohsix,
He's poor as stuff. The most expensive item he owns is his TV.

The corner isn't that big. Those trees were 130 years old, and take years to mature to decent size, so replacing them would be a lot of money, especial with trees that are mature enough. You're looking at trees that are at least 20-30 years old.

Here's a picture of the corner

wow - things have been anything but settled in college station this week.

3* db kenneth marshall was supposed to graduate early and enroll for spring. not happening.

4* rd marion grice (blinn jc) decommitted.

3* dt tomme mark (uh commit) couldn't make/was uninvited to take an ov this weekend because he was arrested for felony evading arrest.

4* db colin blake decommitted and took an ov to tcu.

5* rb trey williams took an ov to arkansas. (he's been openly concerned about the coaching change since it happened)

4* db bralon addison was going to also ov to arkansas, but petrino uninvited him because he's solid to tamu and was only going to keep tabs on willaims.

3* ol michael wilson to an ov to okst, decommitted from tamu and flipped to okst.

4* db darion monroe took an ov to utah.

3* de alonzo willaims took an ov to ucla.

on the plus side, the best wr in the state (thomas johnson from skyline) just decommitted from texas in what looked like a switch to oregon, but there's a very good chance johnson ends up an aggie. he'd start/play a ton as their 3rd wr as a freshman, imo. will be a HUGE/super lucky get if they land him.

be very interesting to see what the fallout from the all the ov this weekend. losing blake and grice really hurts, imo - those are big need positions for tamu.

Those 2 sting a little. I understand how LA could be pretty appealing for an 18 year old, but Utah?

ohsix, the utah one was a bit of a headscratcher for me as well. especially since monroe is from louisiana and there doesn't appear to be an obvious connection. at least williams is from los angeles to ucla is the local school.

For another season at least. Shocked

I think it's just a matter of time before a NFL team is willing to let him do what he wants. I suspect that control and not $$ is what has kept him from leaving already.

Jt,
I figured you of all people would know Auburn never needs to worry about running backs. You know more about the team than Gene Chizik but you seem to forget that we are, and always will be RBU.

yeah, gene's doing just awesome w/ that whole recruiting thing:

Quote:
Remarkably, 43 percent of Auburn's 2009 and 2010 signees are no longer on the team, or never joined the program in the first place. That's a brutal percentage, especially as Auburn sits with the SEC's fewest 2012 commitments and two new coordinators who inevitably will weed out some veterans.

The good news for Auburn: It sits at 24 for 24 from the 2011 class still on the team, as far as we know. But 2009 and 2010 are the classes that keep on disappearing.

The missing signees are spread out among positions. They include six offensive linemen, four wide receivers, four defensive backs, three linebackers, three running backs and three defensive linemen.

They're not just fringe players. Forty percent of Auburn's four- or five-star signees listed by Rivals.com from those years are gone. That doesn't include five-star offensive lineman Shon Coleman, who hasn't played while fighting cancer and remains in the program.

Auburn's quarterback situation might not be a mess if it didn't miss in '09 on Tyrik Rollison, the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback who ranked 17 spots ahead of Clint Moseley. Rollison was suspended and transferred to Sam Houston State, where he has since left while recently expressing interest to join Texas A&M-Commerce.

Auburn's four- and five-star misses add up. Dontae Aycock, the No. 16 running back in '09 ahead of Arkansas' Knile Davis and Wisconsin's Montee Ball, was dismissed by Auburn in '10. Then he left South Florida last year, too.

Taikwon Paige, a four-star junior-college cornerback in '09, never qualified. Neither did Reggie Taylor, the nation's 34th-ranked corner that year.

Mike Dyer, the No. 2 running back in '10, gave Auburn two exceptional years as BCS Championship Game MVP and a first-team All-SEC star. Then he was suspended indefinitely and transferred to Arkansas State.
Roszell Gayden was a massive, four-star offensive lineman out of junior college in '10. He never played a snap due to injuries.

Jeremy Richardson, a four-star receiver in '10, never qualified. Another four-star receiver that year, Antonio Goodwin, got dismissed with three-star teammates Dakota Mosley and Shaun Kitchens after they were arrested on robbery charges.

Some high-profile players still at Auburn haven't lived up to the hype, at least not yet. DeAngelo Benton was the seventh-ranked wide receiver when he signed with LSU in 2007, rated ahead of Dez Bryant. Benton joined Auburn in 2009 and has 14 catches in three years.

Some high-profile 2010 recruits such as Trovon Reed, Kenneth Carter, Jeffrey Whitaker, Eric Mack, Craig Sanders and LaDarius Owens are hoping to make names for themselves. It's still relatively early in their careers. Corey Lemonier, a member of that '10 class ranked fourth nationally by Rivals, tied for fourth in sacks in the SEC last season.

Chizik only had two months to compile the '09 class after he was hired. He did land some longterm hits such as Emory Blake, Philip Lutzenkirchen and Onterio McCalebb. And of course Cam Newton turned out quite fine in 2010, as did fellow JuCo transfers Nick Fairley and Brandon Mosley.

Chizik signed eight JuCos his first two years. That helped win a national title. But it's not a longterm recipe for success, especially when those classes disappear for reasons beyond exhausted eligibility. Auburn didn't sign a JuCo in 2011 and doesn't have any committed for 2012, at least not yet.
