This is more of a blog post to keep track of the work I am doing and for friends and family to see photos of what I am doing.
I have started on the boat, and have taken lots of photo as I have been working on it.
For now I will put up the first photos of the boat and motor that I have, later when I have a bit more time I will add some more and explain the work that’s been done....

First off I had to get some rego on the trailer
There was some rust that needed cutting out and we needed to give it a quick coat of paint for the colour for rego.

All the work will be done at my sisters (400km north of Sydney) so the rego had to be done to take it up there.
On the way i picked up the motor, it was about 60km north of Sydney.
Lots of probs getting it up there as you will see from the photos...

I locked the boat up on the side of the road, drove back to Sydney, the next day I got 2 new hubs and a set of real wheels we had at home, was about a hour and a bit drive out of Sydney

Great looking project! Have you worked out how you'll be mounting an inboard in a boat designed for an outboard yet? I assume you'll be putting stringers in to support and then re-doing the transom and deck?

Seems like a hell of a lot of work but hey... No one else will have one
Hey Brit, Yes we will be pulling out all the floor and re doing all that to take the inboard, (photos of that will be up soon), There will be reinforcements all over the place, particular on the transom. It is a lot of work, but it’s something I like doing... the idea is a bit way out there, such a small boat with such a big motor, should look and run well with all things taken in to consideration... it will have a custom made wakeboard tower and all done in black and tiger gold, the same colour as you see on my car.
Thank you for your interest

Spot751, Sounds awesome! I'd gamble right now that you'll be needing some trim tabs to help get onto plane in decent time but I bet she'll fly regardless once on plane _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk

Brit Rider, you are right, i have not worked out that part yet, what sort or size i will put on the back yet, i dont know if i will go bigger cav plate as well, i have a custom design in my head that should go well, this is all stuff i will have to play with when the motor is in and we can do some test runs to see what it needs. Right now its getting the motor in centered and at the right height and so on... the boat will stay here at my sisters till its all done... i will not get all this done this trip up here, i am meant to be on holidays, so i want to get some fishing in LOL
I like seeing people take on projects like this. You'll truly have a boat to call your own. Its gonna look good.
On a side note, Its not laying the new glass up or fitting in new stringers/flooring/etc. The part that is going to be the worst is grinding the old glass out. You'll be itching for days. _________________ Rider: "Howd that last trick look?"

Brit Rider, LOL yeah and in the USA there Chev, it has the 5.7L V8 in it, (350 Chev) LS1 Gen III Motor, i would be putting the same thing in the boat if i had the money but i think the 165HP will be all it needs to get up a good speed. _________________ Spot's Stuff Australia
We wakeboarded behind a boat just like this about 8 years ago. It had a 120 hp outboard on it.
My biggest issue with your plans would be the weight of that motor vs what was there originally. if your trailer is breaking from the weight I would suspect that you are much heavier than before. Are you worried at all about where the water line will be? I bet with the power to weight you should be able to get on plane. I just am concerned you will need someone in the back scooping water out faster than its coming in. _________________ I am not very good. But LOVE to fly!

stinky_1, the Hull had a 135HP outboard sitting out the back of it before this, it sat in the water ok, a bit low but nothing to really stress about. it’s a wide boat for the length, just over 6 foot wide. With the motor inside the boat, it will not be as bad as hanging something right off the back of it.
The wheels that was on it where crap, small cast alloy wheels that was not meant to go over 80kmph and no, not have over 1 ton on them, and another thing i found out was i only had 40psi in them LOL was meant to have 50psi, I didn’t know was not on the side of the tyre what it was meant to have. The 2ed wheel to go, was just the tread, wheel didnt go down. well they are old tyres about 15 years old, could have had got a bubble in it and yeah, well it was all I had...
Over all it should be ok, will have the fuel tank up the front as well that will balance things a little better

What are the regulations on braked trailers over there? You need brakes on anything over 750kg's here... Only just noticed that you don't have fitted....

Brit Rider, regulations on braked trailers are much the same but it goes on the trailer itself, so when i did rego, i took the boat off.... it was about 160kg's.... coming up here i didn’t have any braking probs... (slowing down and so on) and the boat had a lot of stuff in it as well as what it would normally have, Tools, parts and materials to fix it up... i know the wheel probs i had made it look bad but it was all down to wrong wheels on it with some bad luck in there. i will be going over the hole lot again, the boat and trailer will all mach the car....
Shovel nose sharks are not real bad ass, there more like a stingray than a shark but all in the same family, they don’t fight much, they follow the line till they get real near, (the small ones) , you would have more fun with a stingray or full on shark... and as far as eating, there like shark or stingray, No bones and all much the same taste.
the ones we got are small, a 3m 300kg Shovel Nose Shark was caught at Como (40km south of sydney)

Well got 90% of the floor out today...
The more I cut the more wood rot i have found, just more work, there is not a lot of wood in this boat, if the glass was not that good i would scrap the idea and start fresh with another hull..
Will just take more time, no rush, this is just something i am doing for fun... _________________ Spot's Stuff Australia

McNasty, Yeah i am thinking it will have to come out along with the stringers.
____________________________________________________
hmmmm instead of wood stringers what do you guys think about fibber glassing alloy ones to replace them, like alloy rectangle tubing
I could mig all the supports then as well...
The floor and transom would still be wood but that would be about it, the rest alloy and glass _________________ Spot's Stuff Australia

Well it is coming near to the end of my holiday, I should have all the wood out before I go...
I will head back to Sydney and leave the boat up here, my sister may get some time to do some stuff wile I am in Sydney...
I can tell you, when this boat was put together, the guy that did it was suffering some sort of problem, most likely from all the fumes...
None of the struts are striate in it, the fibreglass is messy, drainage was not set well, and they had used standard metal nails to tack the floor down (a lot of them not hitting the beam)...
All the wood work has to come out...
Was not made with consideration to last...
Not to worry, on her resurrection, it will all be done right this time, and have a kick ass motor...
I will do photos just before I head back to Sydney...
For now, have a look how well this was put together... _________________ Spot's Stuff Australia

I have 1 year to fully do this job, i have a bet with one of my mates , $100 of fuel if i get it done before X-mas 2011 ... Must get back up north soon and do some more work on it...
The next thing to be done on it will be to take the top off the boat...
Take the front of the floor out...
Keep the mane keel stringer, (it will be cut down a bit for the motor)...
The side ones will come out, new ones put in (striate this time) and better suited to the motor mounts _________________ Spot's Stuff Australia

Man... talk about a total re-build!
Yes, it’s a bit that way, I didn’t know what I was going to find under the deck, was not good when I got there, so it all has to come out...
I really think this thing will go well, all done 100% right, it should trow a nice wake out the back and have some really good speed to it... will just take time... _________________ Spot's Stuff Australia
