Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a new board, and i'm considering the 2010 CWB Faction, or the 2010 CWB DB9. I'm a intermediate boarder and getting better with practice...

I've read company and store reviews online, perhaps someone has some "real world" time on the water with each one and can briefly explain some pro's and cons of each.

Thanks

mack, I've ridden both and they are awesome. You do know that they are the same shape right? The only difference is that the DB9 has the light weight bamboo core that shaves a pound off the overall weight. I'd say if you are really advanced or have more $ than you know what to do with, get the DB9. It is a pretty sweet ride and incredibly light! Personally, I ride the Faction and think its excellent. I'm intermediate as well, I'm a spinner and I can do all my 5s, 3s etc on the Faction.

For a continuous rocker board, the Faction uses its width well and gets a ton of pop. I previously rode the Transcend and switched because the Faction has the same amount of pop, lands better and is noticeably quicker than the Transcend. Only thing I can recommend is getting some .8 fins, it is a little locked in with the 1 inchers.

you picked the top boards. same shape with different cores (and prices)
unless your at the top of your game, get the faction, and use all the cash you saved for gas money

Thanks for the replies guys...

Yeah I know they're the same shape, I had a chance to compare them both side by side at my local shop. I was told the edges on the Faction board are less likely to catch an edge, is this true? They looked to be less "jagged" than the DB9.

Also every review I read of the DB9 says it's for "advanced" riders. What makes the board so advanced?

I doubt one is less likely to catch than the other. I guess it is theoretically possible that the Faction is more buoyant (because the foam) and thus rides higher in the water. The edges should not be jagged, they should be smooth with little blemish as you run your finger along the edge. Like I said, haven ridden both I can't tell the difference other than the weight.

Generally board companies will take their light versions and dub them advanced. What they are trying to tell consumers is that to really appreciate the difference you need to be a pretty good rider. It's not that the DB9 won't ride awesome for you and if you've got the $ and want the best, get the light one.
