hey, bottom line is you are going to get hurt. but true, the better physical shape you are in , the less you will bruise and the faster you will recover from injury. i am a certified personal trainer and my advice would be to run, jump rope, push ups, lunges. very important to be in good cardio shape so you wont get worn down. keep your knees and ankles strong because those are major targets of most injuries. and be able to pull your own weight - rope/handle control is the key to landing tricks. do some crunches, that will help when you are trying to do tantrums, toeside backrolls, and raileys.
stay fit, eat right....play hard! _________________ yeah, that's probably going to leave a mark... |

Yoga is really good. Cardio helps with keeping your energy level up so you can take longer sets. I just wakeboard any chance I get. That is the only exercise I have been getting. Does a number on the arms-now I feel sexy in tank tops!!!!!
I went to a cross training class today at the gym after a morning/early afternoon set. Took two long sets too. I am going to feel that in the morning, but I have been riding consistently so hopefully it wont hurt too bad. |

We have a pool at home and a cabin on a lake, so I swim a lot to keep myself in shape. The only problem is I can't really swim during the winter because our pool isn't heated so I keep in shape by playing basketball during the off-season, except I have kinda been slacking off on that! |

I gotta go with WhirlyGirl on this one, Im a Personal Trainer too and the best thing is to so is just try to be in good over all condition, Crunchs are good for the abs but dont forget to work your back to with some extentions. Squats and Lunges will help you get more power in your legs and tricep push ups on the edge of a chair as well as bicep curls will help you ride longer and harder without arm fatique.

There is a Yoga class I was just introduced to where you do the yoga in a 105 degree room for 90 minutes. Has anyone ever done this before?
What about Pilates? Has anyone done that and if so is it worth it?

I had to add my two cents in here because I'm so stoked on my routine. I started working out with a trainer about 2 months ago and it has helped my riding SO much. My trainer is an exercise physiologist and has wakeboarded before so she knows which muscle groups need what type of work for this sport. We focus on total body and core strengthening. We do a lot of seated rows, using a straight bar to simulate the handle and we concentrate on pulling it into my hips. She also has me doing plyometrics for power and jumping, in addition to a whole bunch of stuff I won't bore you with. Frankly, she kicks my butt HARD for an hour two days a week, and is constantly coming up with new ways to torture my body. No two workouts are ever the same. I started seeing visible results after about 2 weeks. On my other days I do yoga, cardio on an eliptical machine or bike, and wakeboard of course. Wakeboarding is a great workout, but it's not enough on its own! Working out with a focus has helped my knee to stop bothering me (I had surgery a couple years ago) and has seriously decreased the pain/healing time after those hard crashes too. I'm hooked! |

Isn't that always the case? I work out on land 5 days a week, but the beer helps to keep the curves in place...if ya know what I mean. |

I noticed for me when I was in my best shape ever it was because I was doing a whole lot of cardio-step classes especially. Plus the wakeboarding doesn't hurt! |

Well I don't know how you all feel about doing videos, but a few months ago i started doing these videos every day called "the firm" which are a combo of weight training, cardio, some kickboxing and ab workouts and I have lost weight and am so much stronger. The weather out here has been horrible for the first part of the summer, but now that i am boarding again i can notice so much of a difference. My sets last longer and i am barely sore after working my body really hard out on the water. I absolutely love these videos, but to each her own!! Good luck with all the workouts! |

I agree with everyone on this but I think a cardio workout would be good and knees and ankles are key points too. _________________ ...Wahoo!

girls get in shape the same way guys do.........for fat burning you wanna do cardio with your heartrate between 130 and 150 anything beyond that is gonna do more for cardio training and less fat burning......for getting more tone hit the weights.......girls always worry about getting to bulky and thats why they shy away from lifting, this is untrue because a female body starts with A) less muscle fiber and B) alot less testostrone, so girls will have virtually no size gain from even heavy lifting _________________ I'd rather die trying.....then live wondering |

Pilates is so great, I have been doing it for about 2 years now...I always do some Yoga stretches b 4 i go out to wakeboard, and in general i do cardio 4-5 times a week for 35-45 mints. then do my weight training on the off days..like 3 days..legs and back and arms/chest . abs every day...and my pivit balance board everyday too. Pilates makes gives you the long and lean look..nice and toned, which is great for your legs and abs for wakeboarding...I am 31 and look better now than ever!! Its all diet and exercise. Now its just my way of life... |

I just take as many faceplants I can at the start of the season, and by the 5th time i'm out my head is like a punching bag and I'm used to it! other than that, stay away from beer and fast food. If your gonna work out use light weights at high reps-better endurance _________________ War does not decide who is right- War decides who is left............... |

buttafly,
I go to Bikram once a week. I have to tell you, it has helped with everything, including wakeboarding. Something about the combination of Yoga moves and the heat really makes for a great workout. Everyone, it's definitely recommended - it combines flexibility and a cardiovascular workout. Behind wakeboarding it's my 2nd favorite thing to do =) |
