Just started 3 weeks ago but I've been getting to go out at least 3x a week. Is there an order that yall recommend learning in? Should I learn how to edge toeside and heelside regular, then learn switch, then learn how to pop off the wake or just go out and ride and it will eventually come?
Just been getting frustrated because I keep falling so much when trying to "pop" off the wake. Been trying to progressively edge to the wake and push down on the peak of the wake but fall every other time. The people I'm riding with tell me I need to stop watching so many videos and just learn the basics.
Are there things yall recommend working on each time I go out so I can progressively get better? Maybe just working on edging till I'm comfortable both heel and edge, then try that switch?
learn to pop 1 wake first. go from the inside out until you feel comfortable...then outside in. bottom line, go out there and have fun..when you stop having fun you stop progressing as quickly as you would otherwise.
You NEED to learn the basics first. Without a strong progressive edge and good board control any tricks aren't worth trying. Right now focus on edging, maybe a few surface tricks.
The book has an excellent drill. Carve out toeside(both hands on rope) as far as you can. Then carve back in at the wake(one hand on rope). When you get back out do a front side surface 180 and repeat the process riding switch. Your next 180 should be after you carve back in to the wake. Then cross the wake and repeat the whole process on. The other side of the wake. Then repeat the whole process but do backside 180's instead of frontside. You will likely get whiplash from the backside 180's. For the frontside 180's simply pull the rope to your back hip, that will do the spin for you.
Thanks. I'll just get out there and working on getting my surface 180's down smooth both ways and edging of course. When I carve back in with one hand on the rope which hand should I be holding on with?
I would say to get the 3 day trial at learnwake.com and watch all of The book videos, well maybe skip the first one. It teaches you a lot and in order to what you need to do in order to do this.
just focus on regular, i never really go switch, dont find much use for it. but just work on going w2w, first do one wak jumps to get some more speed then ad more speed in till your getting 3/4 the way there, you dont need to let go with one hand, for the learning period, work on just jumping with two once you got 1 wakes down shorten up the rope a bit and start trying to jump w2w, and with wakeboarding there really isnt a thing as "too fast of a cut on your first times, just remember if your trying to go w2w after doing one wakes, whatever speed you think you need to clear, cut a little bit faster then that
Hawkster, you couldn't be more wrong. If you can't ride switch, how will you land in switch? If you can't land in switch you hit a brick wall at basic inverts and spins. All you'll ever be able to do is back rolls, 360's, tantrums and raleys.
Learning to ride switch is one of the most important basic skills you need if you want to keep progrssing.
Wakerook, you want to drop your back hand when carving in at the wake. I'm uploading the 4 minute drill from "the book" to youtube. When the upload is finished I'll make a thread here. Make sure to watch it and get the idea...the video upload has finished. You should be able to watch right below. Sorry for poor quality, I'm doing all this from my phone. Enjoy:)

I agree with Enygma, learning to ride switch and as early as possible is one of the most basic things and opens up possibilities to do so much more.
You don't get up then go straight to W2W's, you have to get the basic drills down first. Board control, edging, switch, carving are all essential skills that set you up to the go and learn more things. Get the basics down and right makes the more complicated stuff so much easier later on.
I've seen so many people try to run before they can even crawl (sad to say mostly the guys, because they're being run by their egos) and they fall at the first hurdle because they haven't learnt the basics and just how to ride properly, with a good style etc.
I also agree that The Book is fantastic at putting things in a good order, defo worth getting. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore!

Work on edging regular and switch. I had been riding for 10 years. I had no idea how much I actually sucked at edging switch and how EASY it became once I committed a month of riding to it.
That one month's work led me to be able to pull of wake to wake 180's all over the place. I'm still working on my switch ts w2w - it needs work, but you get the idea.
That edging drill enygma posted is exactly what you should be doing _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before.
I also find that drill is a GREAT way to warm up before going into your w2w and whatever else you want to practice. It get you all stretched out and just ready to ride. I generally do some stretches on the boat still anyways. Nothing worse then a day of basic riding without any falls and then not being able to move the next day.
