Avid water skiier here looking to try his hand at wakeboaring, problem is I have no clue what type of board would be best?
I am about 200lbs, and I am looking for a good beginner board w/ bindings to use. Does anyone have any suggestions and approx how much $ it will cost?

How tall are ya? If over 5'7" go with anything 138 or 142. If you buy some crazy model with crazy binding, you're looking at $700+.

Plus get a new rope, don't use water skiing rope.

When in doubt, go balls out.

Wakeboard ropes are non-stretch. Any deck 141 and up will work. You can find a decent package from one of the main manufacturers for 250+ if you watch the sales and close outs from places like evogear, the house, ebay or boardstop. Look for name brands, hyperlite, liquid force, ronix, or CWB and you really can't go wrong. Best thing to do is start poking around and find some deals in your price range and then come back and post up some links to get advise on how the different models ride.

Cool thanks for the advise. Will go get a rope and look for some of those brand name boards.

My advice would be to check out some boards and bindings from 2009. Still brand new and sick but less expensive. I got a pro model board and legit bindings for about $300 from evogear.com

when you are starting out the board is probably the least important of the 2. I would say focus on getting bindings that fit your feet good. And are comfy. You wont know what riding style you like yet. So going for one that is more poppy, or more smooth, or this or that may not be the right choice.

I would look for basically any board that you can get for under $150 tops. And spend most of the setup on boots.

Have a look through craigslist or kijiji. There are a lot of people selling used setups at decent prices. There are also people asking way too much for used setups. My personal limit on used gear is around $200 for the whole thing. Unless I am looking for specific gear that I know the value of. But, for a beginner, you would be fine with just about anything for now.

Next year go balls out on the setup you want. Once your into the sport and have a better idea what you like, and what you want
