Why so many floor sections in mid 80"s DD boats

I have a 1987 magnum skier and i am going to replace the floor this winter, but does anyone know why there are so many sections of floor, why didnt they just make a 2 piece floor, not 6 parts to it...

incase 1 rots, you dont have to replace half your boat just one smaller section??

Also, a lot of the pieces are there to be removed for access to mechanical parts.
