SOLVED - Binding Laces Upgrade?

Buy wakeboard replacement laces

I've been riding for a few years and have gone through a lot of the major brands of bindings and just went to CWB this year. The problem I've seen all along is that the binding laces or the cinch (lace locks) all break or fail. My new CWB laces have frayed and the cinched slide and don't stay locked.

Can anyone recommend a lacing system upgrade? I'd think they are more or less interchangeable.

UPDATE:
I went to REI (camping store) and picked up the following:
- Duraflex 1/8" Cord Lord Cinch
(can't locate on their website. These are not as good, but I see them used a lot, so if you need them, this is where you get them: http://www.rei.com/product/612218)

- 3mm Bluewater NitLine Cord

The cinches were $1.50 for a pack of two, I picked up extras. The cord was $15 for 50ft. The cinches work incredibly! They do not budge when locked and slide easily when released. If they do break, I have replacements. Check the pics (still need o clean it up).

The CWB hinge bindings with this new lace setup is the hot ticket.[url][/url]

they are being used in everything now, just call them up and tell them your setup and they will sell you the wire and the lock that will fit your boot the best. I have these on my snowboard boots and when i get new bindings im definately gonna get BOA for those.

When you search google for boa tech tuere is a link to buy spare parts. If you call them they will tell you what lenght of lace and reel you need. The lace is made of aircraft grade stainless steel so you dont have to worry about them rusting.

Well probably not any, but the technology is pretty simple, you run the lace and spin the reel and it holds it tight, so yea esssentially if you have eyelets you can use BOA stuff.

we had to take BOA training through work and all the stuff i have seen on it on snowboard bindings and northface snowboots and hiking shoes makes me think that its possible to put on anything, just gotta have the right length of lace.

the only problem i would see is the reel being loose, that would be to say, not attached to the boot itself but there are self locking reels that would combat that so i would think it would work. Call them up they will give you a definitive answer.

I took my Ronix One bindings to a boot repair shop today. The top laces ripped completely out. They are going to add two speed lace hooks to each side along with new laces and new backing plates so the speed laces will hold up over time. Total cost will be about $25.

Eyelets would be better if you could find them since they would hold the laces.

brichter14, I don't see how they would work without the coiler being attached to the boot. I looked at the replacement parts section, and it seems that there is no backing plate that could be attached to any boots, just the ratchets and laces.

How fast do those things release? And how wide can you open them? I tried some snowboard boots with the BOA and didn't care for them. Had a hell of a time getting my foot out of them. With SB boots not such a big deal, with wake, I want my bindings off fast. I did like the locked in feel, but can't imagine them opening far enough to let my feet out.

i like them on snowboarding boots, you just pull the reel out (like turning on or off a washing machine) and move your ankle forward and back and it releases the reel tension, super easy.

as far as mounting them im not sure on that, i would think that when they were tight you could just grab them with both hands and release it. or to tighten it just hold the back of the reel and spin the front. idk really, never tried them on wakeboard boots.

not a good idea for wakeboarding, i have the boa system on my murrays, they take for ever to get tight, and i m justting waiting on them to fail, but on the plus side its nice to be able to just reach down and turn it up a couple notches if you want tighter. the main problem i have with them is that, alot of moving parts and sandy water dont mix. the cables run through some tubing that goes down by your heels, then comes out of the tubing and is attached to a rubber strap that pulls the top of your foot where it meets the leg back and down. the overall feel of them is alright, they dont really have any pressure points, but the cable housings that i spoke of earlier are already getting jammed up.

I think they would be greqt with cwb hinge bindings because they would only be used to keep the upper tight.

Rode with a couple of different people who had the HL Murrays with the BOA system. They all failed within a couple months of use. Maybe its because we ride in saltwater but...

I've had to replace the laces in my various LF bindings, but $3 at Wally World for some hiking boot laces every 6-8 months is a good deal IMO. Mr. Green

Have to agree on the boas. I had the first boa laces in my old vans snowboard boots, the ratchet failed on them. Later, friends went with the DC boa versions which were nice, but they broke either an eyelet or the cable. I think a lot of people like having two lace zones now for bottom and top of feet and the boas don't provide that. As far as snowboard solutions, I can't say enough about Salomon boots.
