New guy here (lurking a while, just never posted). I have the wild idea of building a tower and need to tap the DIY knowledge around here. Due to the tools and skills I have available, I'm limited to something like EMT. Yeah, I'd like to just buy a tower, but it isn't in the cards right now to spend $1k on a tower with racks for a 1976 19' boat. I really like what Brian_216 did as my boat looks like his, just a different year:

I like this basic design, but need to make it foldable or at least removable. I have a couple ideas on how to make that happen, but my two big issues are

a) what size EMT to use , 1 1/2" or 2"? I like the weight of the 1.5" and I think it would look better on this boat, but safety is #1. Is 1.5" big enough?

b) how to attach to the boat. I think solid mounts may be my best option but are there any other reasonable ways?

Thanks!

The mounts are one of those tower parts that make a tower look either professional or DIY.
My buddy ordered this set of feet
http://cgi.ebay.com/BOAT-WAKEBOARD-TOWER-Base-Anodized-Aluminum-Feet-Kit-/220632780347?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335ebd0e3b#ht_4542wt_985

and built an stainless steel tower by himself.

Spent over 300$ and now he's got a really nice tower.

sorry for the dark picture. I have no other.

Those are the exact same mounts that you get with a monster tower.

Exactly.

You'll just need to replace those black rubber pads for some a bit harder plastic pads.

Actually, they are a rip off of the monster tower parts. Monsters feet are patented so I'm sure Tower solutions LLC will be hot onto this.
