If you just want something to mess around with now and then it might be fine, but if you're looking to really get into wakeboarding I'd keep looking.

What's your height and weight and what sort of price range are you looking to be in? With that info someone can probably point you in a little better direction.

I am 6ft. 200 lbs. I am a single dad... so the less the better....are O'Briens good? The hydroslide good for recreational use?

Hyrdroslide is a bargain basement product sold at boating outlets like Bass Pro Shops etc. For "messing around" I guess it doesn't matter. If you want to take up wakeboarding though, you'll be better served to buy a better quality board right from the start. You don't have to necessarily spend a fortune either.

At 200 lbs, you want to look for something in the 140cm or bigger range. There are lots of deals to be had on closeout boards and used boards. I'd start with the classified section of this forum. Also, most online retailers have closeout sections. Check out boardstop.com, also buywake.com, the-house.com, wakeside.com, and of course Ebay.

Any of the following manufacturers in the proper size range should serve you well.

Liquid Force
Ronix
CWB
Hyperlite
Byerly
Gator
Obrien
Slingshot
Company

Almost forgot to mention, my first board was a Hydroslide. It didn't survive my friend "EZ."

Oh Jeez!!!!!! Glad I didn't get it... think I will save for something in the 300.00 range. I would be pissed about the "oops, broke your board" thing!

LMAO....nice pics Dave. I had a hydroslide and my brother ripped the inserts out of it...twice, bout twisted a knee the second time.

Remember kids, friends don't let friends ride hydroslide Laughing

Chawk - I live in Arlington and have an O'brien System 140 that I'll sell you if you are interested. This is not a board that i would suggest going out and buying, but for $100 it would be a great board to start with if you are on a budget. Not knowing anything about wakeboarding, i bought this board last year and it was fine to start on. Since then, i have moved to a Ronix One with Byerlly bindings which is fantastic but not in the same price category you are looking to stay in. PM me if you are interested.
Good Luck
JL

chawk610, and don't forget, proper binding selection is at least as important, if not more so, than picking a board. Cool
