I read this article today and found it interesting. Being that many of you are from "Gen X", how do you feel about the statements made here?

Is there anything that you feel Gen Y needs to learn from Gen X?

I'm right on the border between X and Y. I can see it from both sides. IMO, the article doesn't hold much water. I read crap like this 10 years ago about the Xers, the internet age etc. The grass is always greener. Younger generations are the "innovators" and designers, but also lazy and irresponsible. This is the same generation that's hooked on video games and has crazy obesity rates.

Generally, I see future generations getting weaker. Childhood responsibility keeps getting pushed back in kids lives. Now a kid can't be home alone until they're something like 13 or 14. It seems like younger generations have a stronger and stronger sense of entitlement. The more you're given, the more you expect.

Also from my experience, Boomers love Gen Yers. I think it's because the Xers are on their heels ready to take their jobs and Yers are the nonthreatening innovative kids.

All BS

When you are born has nothing to do with your personal ambition, intelligence, etc. This article holds just as much weight as my horoscope in the paper this morning.

And or the record I am pretty sure I am generation y

I would like to see this guy fire all his staff and hire nothing but 20 somethings. Oh wait he can't because he is a guy who couldn't hack writing or teaching (The two de facto jobs of our time for people too scared to make a career decision) so he is a "Freelancer" (AKA Blogger. Congratulations you hip cat with the cool glasses but I have a blog and I am half retarded).

Gen Y? Ooohhh the kid who is failing high school can make an iPhone app. Good for him and for us. We need more electronic fart sounds. Let's see how worldly they are when they can't even talk to another human face to face. Maybe in the future all business deals are done via text and pretty virtual holographic presentations but right now real world experince matters. Gen X is full of douche bags too. Uber cool slacker losers who are more interested in foisting blame at others than just fixing problems. The Boomers? Please, I think we have seen the fruit of their selfish, greedy ways right now and we will be paying for their fantastic life choices for 30 more years.

Seen this article a million times with minor changes. The only thing I agree with is s-canning the Boomers. Especially in govt. Why is an 80 year old man in Congress making decisions that will affect me for 50 years and affect him for 50 months?

Wakebrad, it seems to me at least, that obesity isn't generation based, but more based on your economic status/class.

Just need more boomers to retire so we can solve some of this unemployment problem.

BurkeViper, childhood obesity is taking over. Kids are getting fatter at younger ages. It's now a national crisis. Bottom line is our parenting is getting worse as a country, and the fruit of that is a degradation of the quality of our citizens in the future. This is why I think future generations are in trouble. We've lost the things that made this country great in the first place: Individual responsibility, delayed gratification, self control, hard work, and determination.

These things have been slowly missing from our upbringing. Kids don't learn them and in-turn their kids don't learn them. It's a growing problem that started with the Boomers. The Silent generation was built on these philosophies. But the success that came after the Great Depression and WWII caused our society to go soft. It's been slowly degrading since then.

These positive qualities were a necessity for families who worked on a farm or ranch, and still are. But as society grows and responsibilities get pushed back and become more vague, the value isn't immediate. It becomes too much trouble to train our kids to do the right thing. Much easier to shove them in front of the video game console or cable box.

All of this, is the reason that if you are opposed to hard working immigrants coming to the United States you are a JACKASS.

ORLY?

I have experienced alot of people that fit Wakebrad's description to a T. All the while blaming immigrants for their lack of work. It couldn't possibly be that they can't show up to work more than 3 days in a row without a "sick" day.
