My kenwood head unit in my Xterra is dying. Going to get a new one...anyone got any recommendations? Ill list what I got and what I need
-2 polk 5.25s in the front
-2 polk 6x9s in the back
-12" rockford sub on 300W alpine amp
What I want:
-Good power, my current head unit overheats when playing at high volume. It claims its 50Wx4 but dont think thats RMS
-iPod connectivity. I like aux cords but the iPod connection to the bottom is fine as long as I can use my iPod normally, doesnt force me to go through head unit display
-subwoofer control on EQ separate from just Low, Mid, Highs would be nice
-CD player
-Dont really want or need anything with satellite radio
thanks |

I've always liked Alpine. What's your price range? _________________ RIP DLS.

I've been a Kenwood guy ever since I got into car stereo's. If you want power you can't beat Kenwood. 22 watts RMS per channel is the best I have seen and that is what Kenwood has in all their decks. And the built in crossover in the excelon models is amazing. You can set it so that the low frequencies won't get to your mid range speakers and they won't distort. And you can cut your highs from going to the sub all from the deck. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

LFADAM, I'd go with the X794 myself. It looks cleaner. Im not a fan of having plugs in teh front of a head unit, makes them look cheap IMO. The X794 looks solid though, I'd recommend. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

Rhawn, Is the deck going to be getting wet or will it be in an enclosed compartment? If it will be out of the elements, just get a car unit. If it is going to be getting directly wet than you should get a marine unit. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

Well its not enclosed, but it is in the cockpit and has the potential. I keep the boat covered, but we do get caught occasionally. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

Well I spoke too soon...it started acting up on me tonight on my drive home from work. Basically my treble/mids would fade out for maybe 30 seconds every few mins...my sub would still be hitting normally, not sure about bass in my door speakers but all mids and highs were going really quiet, like attenuated then fading back in. Not sure whats going on here... |
