i want good distance, but most important to me is feel and green control.. i want the ball to stop dead on the green no aim at the front and let the ball roll so basically a good soft ball that has good distance.. i have a high draw shot..

i know people say titleist pro v1 but also know its not that durable either but still is a very good ball, just kinda open to suggestions and just want a good ball.. because i have 8 different brands of titleist balls in my bag right now lol

i am also selling those to.. i have 40 titleist balls mint condition most wud be considered brand new but they just have logos. prolly 35 out of 40 are new.. just gunna get rid of them a stick with one ball..

kinda leaning towards the pro v1 though..
any suggestions? thanks.

Assuming that you want to spend $40 on a dozen balls....wouldn't it make sense to go hit a sleeve of those offerings and see what appeals to you.... I wonder how many weekend golfers could tell the difference between the top balls out there.... I am sure USMGolfer could add some insight....

#2....I have never understood having a bunch of half new balls in the bag. I use a ball until it is beat up enough to not use, then I fire it off into a lake, hillside, at a foursome that I am playing with....Wink

I don't hit Titleist because they are Titleist.....everyone and their mother is playing them. Bridgestone baby.....Bridgestone...

Try the Nike Tour-Distance, love the ball and has everything you are looking for.

I can get pro v1s for 22 bucks a dozen brand new.. and ya I have been talking to him. just wondering what everyone thought though.. I am about to start working at our local golf course so I will get to play for free everyday.. reason I get them for 22 bucks is because my buddy works there right now and gets 50 percent off everything..

ya I plan on using the ball till it's no longer usable but haven't really paid attention to actually how long a ball will last till I notice a difference. also heard good things about bridgestone never tried it though..

The only real difference I notice (and I'm guessing the majority of golfers, u nless you're VERY good) are avg/good balls vs. CHEAP balls. Some are a little softer, some of the distance balls a little harder, but not enough that I can really tell. And it's not like I hit the green enough that it matters. If you want the ball to stop dead, play on a nicer course, they never stop dead on cow pastures Laughing

For the record, I play Forest Brand balls. Haven't purchased a golf ball in 10 years.

Not really a joke... there are tons of nice courses here but equally as many that don't water enough and the greens are hard as rock.

well you said play on a nicer course and I do play on nicer courses just my ball rolls cuz I don't ever use the same ball so that's why I made this thread. so i was pretty sure u were just assuming since I live in Texas I must play on a bad course that looks like a cow pasture, idk how it couldn't be a joke since it's not a true statment. lol

but it does get ridiculously hot here. it's 90+ degrees everyday and real humid. so all the courses here get watered everyday. that's one thing about Texas usually every type of sport field or course will be well taken care of and watered alot to make it look good.

Srixon Z Star or even the Trispeed Tour from what I've been told.

Titleist is OVERRATED with everything they make besides the AP1 and AP2 irons

ya u keep telling me that lol just have a hard time believing that the pro v1 ball sucks and is overrated when a ton of people use it and love it...

ok after hours of reading I'm going with the new taylormade penta ball. I have read nothing but really good things about it and it is everything I wanted In ball. only thing I'm worried about is the super high spin off the driver and drawing it a little more which wud lose me distance..

but is the zstar a low spin ball of the driver?

Marketing... simple.

Like I said, I play what I find... and I never had and Srixon balls until recently and I actually REALLY liked them.

Are you a legitimate 5 handicap? If you answered no, simply close your eyes, run down the ball aisle at the store and randomly reach out and grab a box. You may think that you hit and play better with a pro V1 but the reality is that average golfers aren't good enough for it to make a difference. I guess I would agree with ont though, you could probably tell the difference between a srixon tri speed and a pinnacle but beyond that it doesn't matter.

This is similar to how everyone wants the top of the line clubs and to play what the pros and tiger plays, but they play forged blade irons which are not forgiving at all and the average golfer is going to hit them like crap because the don't strike the ball consistently enough.

I would suggest the Bridgestone B330 or the Titleist NXT Tour if you dont go with the ProV1. I played the ProV1 for a couple of rounds last year and just didnt seem to notice much of a difference in it and the NXT Tour. Since I didnt notice much of a difference I naturally went with the NXT Tour for the rest of the year and nearly all of this year so far due to the price difference. If you are wanting to stay away from Titleist then the Bridgestone B330 is probably the best ball on the market for what you are looking for. I do agree with the poster who said if you are not a single digit handicap then just pick any ball cause you more than likely will not notice a difference in anything.

but see that's the thing I do notice the difference. I can tell whether I play I crappy ball or not. no I'm not a 5 handicapper, I shoot anywere from 80-87 don't know my exact handicap. but o can feel the difference in a ball. say like a 2 piece hard core ball and a 3 piece ball. idk why but I can tell the difference on which ball I hit.

and ya I will never play forged irons I hate those things.

and it wasn't marketing with that ball I made sure I found a site where it let all ranges of handicappers try the ball. I think it was thehackersparadise.com that let and bunch of people on there forum try the ball and come back and review them compared to the ball they usually play..

ur telling me it doesn't matter on the ball then u say ya you could tell a difference between the z star and a pinnacle ball, but then u say just go grab a dozen well If I grab pinnacles I'm screwed cuz those things are hard as rocks lol

bridges, any idea what your driver swing speed is or what your spin rates are? Ever been put on a launch monitor?

I'm an 11 and I used to play the NXT Tours until I got a little education on golf balls. Since I've switched to the ProV1x and Z-Star X last September, I've not shot a round above an 84 and I'm breaking 80 a lot more. My scores last year before switching balls and buying a new set of irons were mid/high 80's and I only broke 80 twice last season. Changing balls made a big difference in my short game, too.

I'd suggest either the Bridgestone B330, Srixon Z-Star, Nike One Tour, ProV1, or TM Penta. BUT, if you are a high swing speed/high spin (and you might be if you hit a high draw-I hit the same shot and am a 110MPH ss who spins the ball a LOT) then you have have to hit the B330, Z-Star X, or ProV1x because the "regular" versions of the same models (like the 330-S or a TM Tri-speed or TP Red) will spin TOO MUCH off the driver.

Basically, the "x" balls will benefit you more because they spin a bit less but still spin incredibly around the green. If I play a ProV1, my draw become a lot more pronounced and is sometimes a hook. Also, I lose an entire club in distance with my irons because the spin makes my shots balloon and then they just die at the end. I play the ProV1x and it or the Z-Star X are my first choices.

Surprisingly, the Top Flite Gamer V2 is a pretty solid choice as well. It is NOT as spinny as the others I listed above, but it IS close and it costs half (sometimes 1/3 on sale) what the others cost.

So, if money is no object, go Z-Star or ProV1 ("x" if necessary). If you don't want to pay $35-45, go Top Flite GV2.

im gunna go either z star or penta.. bought 3 penta balls off of ebay to test out and someone else is sending me some z stars for free.. so il be playing one of the 2..
i did the driver swing speed a while ago but dont remember what it was..and no idea on spin rates.. il just see which one i can control more and im thinking the z star might be a little better since it doesnt have as much spin off the driver. but i will test em out..

thank you!

This how I decide which golf ball to use.

Step one.
Go to the promo room and grab a dozen balls. (nike or calaway is what we stock)

Step two
At the golf course hand out a sleave to each person in the foursome, get back three sleaves from customers.

Step three
Lose the three balls in the sleave that I gave out.

Step Four
Break out the new sleave the customer brought and proceed to hit them in the water, trees, long grass ect ect.

Step Four
Break out the other new sleave as required that was given to me.

I find that the Pro V1s, Nike, Calaway ect ect all seem to be about the same. Now I have no experience with topflight or the cheaper stuff though....

buy golf balls? I have at least 100 sleaves of balls in my garage that will never be used. who wants em...

I play off an 11 and use Pro V1x's. The reality is that it isn't all marketing...they stop on command on fast and hard greens, and that is what I want, all through the iron range and around the greens. They aren't hugely long, but long enough.

Another ball I really like but it's hard to get in NZ/Aust is the Wilson Tx4. Think it has more feel than the V1x and will stop as well as one. Also longer. The last ball I played outside of these two was a Callaway HX-Tour 56 or whatever it is, and I thought that was average.

a few years back before I got into golf I had ran into a lady who was getting a divorce. She gave me 2 5 gallon buckets full of golf balls that were her husbands. Me and my buddy used to get drunk and drive balls out of my back yard for hours. Good times.

Since we've veered off topic some, I'm joining in. When I rented my first apartment in college, the landlord made me sign all the usual paperwork and then an extra "special form" he had prepared. It said that I would not hit golf balls inside the apartment. Apparently the guys who rented it before me didn't care about their security deposit and so, on the last day of the lease, they got drunk and stood in the living room with their drivers and hit a few dozen golf balls into the walls because they wanted to see if they could hit them through the drywall in the living room and have them end up in the bedroom on the other side of the same wall.
