Does it clean up as you speed up? Assuming your rider is comfortable, your wake should start to form as you reach 18-21mph.
Once you get a better wake, drag the tow rope and adjust the length. Your rider is too far away for the wake.

Yeah I thought I was too far away..that was my 1st attempt at wakeboarding a few weekends ago...The wake does get a little cleaner the faster we go...so 18-21 is where we want to be ??
How about the rope lenght..you say it's too long....based on the pic should it be around 50-55 ??....remember it am still very new at this...at landed an Ollie 180 last night just could not ride switch well once I landed.....must pratice switch more !
More input is great!!
thanks

Yes, you should go between 18-23, depending on your boat. You will notice that if you put some extra weight in the boat, you can go a little faster for a clean wake. It should be at the point right before it breaks. You shouldn't have any white water at the top.
The rope looks too long because your wake is all jacked up at 16mph. 55-75 is standard rope length. Beginners usually prefer a shorter length, as it is easier to clear the entire wake.
I think 20ft is too deep...try to find some 5ft deep water, you should end up with a monster wake.

What does the depth of the water have to do with it? It's not a wave, it's a wake.

| dliguori, i thionk it has to do with water displacement, and the more water there is the more there is to be displaced, i think its something like that

| get that speed up to 20 and shorten the rope to 55 or 60 feet. if your wanting a bigger wake sack it up, 40:60 front to back ratio.

Depth absolutly effects the wake size and shape, not drasticly but it does. Especially when wakesurfing. If you go over as spot thats under 10-12 feet you will notice that the wake will flatten and wash out. I sometimes ride in a river section that is 8-15 ft and we have to add ballast to get the wake to look like it does when we ride in other areas where the depth is 20+.
As for the wake, get some more pics of it after you get on plane for a bit and are moving 18-23. Keep working on the 180, great move to start with, good building block.

I guess things are different where you guys ride. At my lake you'd have to be 5 feet away from shore to be under 10'.

OK look at the bottom of X-boarders post..."oh, that depth thing was just a joke... "
Water depth under about 10' kills the wake.
