I am looking for some advice on any speaker, amp, etc. brands to stay away from or what may be good products for the money. I am looking to upgrade my factory system on my 08 SeaRay, but do not want to break the bank. I am looking to spend about $1000 to add a couple tower speakers, a sub and amp. Any advice is appreciated.
thanks

brands I trust consist of mtx, and jl audio. I would consider getting something along those lines but it depends how DIY oriented you are. I'm into sound systems and like building my own crap so I would never buy wetsounds or these other pricey brands out there. *shrug* _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

JL offers "pricey" equipment as well as budget stuff. I think you can ask most people on the boards here and see that Wetsounds is worth the money just as most high end audio is worth the money.
To stay under 1K I would try to find some Kicker KMT6's. Find an amp to match them or get a 4 channel amp to run your tower and sub. I'm not real sure where you plan to put the sub on the 195 because of the weird design they did with the dash. I suppose you could drop it under one side of the sunpad.
I think for 1000 you could easily put a system together though.

Should be around $900 with a $100 bucks for cables and materials. This is obviously just one of many many different setups you could do in your boat. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

JL | Learn from my mistakes, to get sound out to a rider 60-80' from the boat a HLCD speaker is needed. Otherwise you are wasting your money. You can hear coaxials in cans 60' from the boat in the parking lot, but it will be quite marginal on the water. I essentially wasted money on 4 Audioformz pods and coax speakers. You can get a pair of speakers and amp for 900-1000, and wait on the sub _________________ 2009 MB Sports B52 TWB |

| I've got a demo pair of wetsounds pro 60's and a demo wetsounds pro 485 that I could get you a killer price on. I can sell them separate or as a package. Check out www.wetsounds.com for the specs. |

Given that I only ride about 55" from the boat, but I can hear my KMT6s pretty well when I'm riding. I think the key is to have them aimed correctly so that when the boat is on a plane they will point directly at the rider and not at the sky or the water. |

I agree. I would never claim that my Kicker's sound better our travel farther than a set of Wetsounds or other HLCD but they only cost me $215. I don't have any problems hearing my tunes and I ride about 65'. If you have the money by all means go with the HLCD but if you're on a budget I think you'll be happily surprised by the Kicker's. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

I have aimed mine, that is exactly the problem, there are spots where I can here them and spots where you don't. That type of speaker is just not made to project that far, look at the speakers they use at stadiums and concerts, I would think it would be hard to hear them across the entire area (side to side) you are boarding on or maybe my boat is just loud. Best way is to ride behind boat with the set up you are contemplating, not at an audio store and see if it is audible enough for your tastes. Might be my advanced age, might be cheaper for me to get a waterproof hearing aid. _________________ 2009 MB Sports B52 TWB |
