i have a buddy that works at best buy and he hooked me up w/ 2 pairs of Alpine type-s 6.5" speakers for 100 bucks. I power them with a 1000 watt peak amp from sony and i can hear the music fine while i ride... so like 200 bucks for the whole system, college budget ftw. _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

Ah, nice, I could not find them anywhere for that price anymore.
What amp are you going to push them with? |

I just wired up a pair of KMT6's and they sound great for the price. I'm running a Fosgate 401S to them which is pushing about 150 watts to each pod. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

Nice, I think I'm gonna pick a set of those up... Do they come with tower mounts, or do you have to buy them separate?
Edit: ah, gay, out of stock. |

Is there still room for your bimini under them? |

There was a guy out at the cove here in tampa with a set of those on a yamaha jet boat last week. They were loud and sounded fine. Nothing to write home about, but probably a pretty good deal for $350. |

I tried for a few hours to get the Bimini to work with them but ended up mounting them above the tower. With them hanging the Bimini wasn't able to open and close. When it was open there was plenty of clearance but hit the pods when you tried closing it. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

Can you post a picture of how they look mounted on the top? I have a 205 Sea Ray as well. |

Yea, running the cables through the tower were a pain in the ass. I had to drill 3 holes in the tower and one through the hull under the front left leg.
Someone recommended using a silicone gel on the cables when you're running them. I didn't do this but would highly recommend it. The bends in the tower made it very difficult to pull the cables.
We also tested the clearance with the rope and didn't have any problems with them mounted on top. My wife tells me the boat looks like ET now, I just know I have tunes and my bimini to keep my white ass from burning. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

Looks Good ... We have the same speakers and had to go on top for the same reason .. One trick we use when running wire through towers is use a shop vac and some kite string . Then u just pull the wire back through the other way |

I second the shop vac with string, worked like a charm. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

Yea, it fit with room to spare just couldn't open it on the hinge. I might mess with it some more and see if I have any better luck.
As for the Infinity speakers, I haven't been that impressed with them. If you have the choice I'd grab a pair of the Kicker ones and find an amp for them. _________________ My Boat: 2008 Sea Ray 205 Sport w/ Tower

Speakers + amp combo for a good price. Any thoughts?
Browneye...do you think you could have taken the bimini off its hinge, opened it, and then put it up under the kmt6's and made it all fit? |
Speakers are 150W RMS at 4ohm, amp is 150W RMS at 2ohm... which means only 75W RMS at 4ohm. |

I've tried e-mailing this guy to see if his bimini still works w/ the Pro 80's installed but haven't received a response.

I had a bad run in with these people as well. It took threatening to sue them to get my money back. Site said in stock so I ordered with second day shipping on a Monday morning to get them by the weekend. Thursday rolls around and no shipping info. Guy says after I call and call and call and email and email and email and leave message after message then finally get him on the phone that the unit was held up at a "distributor". So I told him to cancel and he wouldn't comply. Said the terms of their site said I had to give them up to 7 business days to ship the unit. I said bullchit and requested a refund with him on the phone and via email. He said no. I said my lawyer is drafting up a letter to them as we spoke. He said I would be charged a $50 chargeback for cancelling and again I said bullchit. He finally relented after cursing me and refunded my money.....three days later. They don't have anything in stock and are a rip off. Just google search "dealer car audio problems" and you'll get plenty of negative reviews of the same bullchit going on with a lot of people. Dude told me they had been in business since 99 and on the Better Business Bureau's site they had only been open since 2008. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!! |

I look up under where all the stereo stuff is and there are just wires all over the place lol. I get "tired head" looking at it.
I had a store around the corner price me out installation of it all plus a new deck and speakers. What do you all think about this deck and speaker combo? I am not looking for anything mind blowing just nice sounding.

It sounds like you don't have to much experience with installing car audio so an installer might be the right choice. It's not to complicated to do but I can understand the hesitation if you're new to it.
The headunit doesn't look to bad, I personally went with a Sony when I upgraded because I liked their remotes better and it offered all of the features I was looking for in a HU.
The speakers will be fine if you're pushing them with the HU only. In that price range I'd probably look at Polk's instead of the clarion's. I've heard really good things about them. Lots available on eBay for the same price you're looking at and a little better looking IMHO.

I have no clue how these things mount really but i was thinking if you put some kind of quick disconnect or even carry a wrench, before you put the Bimini up, just loosen the bolts and flip the speakers up, then when its up put them back in the correct spot... might have to climb all over the tower though... just a thought! _________________ Its hard to explain to the average person, why we risk breaking every bone in our body, but you know what, thats what makes our sport so bad ass.-Brian Deegan |
