I think the title says it all. Looking for a prop puller for a '01 Tige 21v. Harmonic or c-clamp prop puller would be great. I just don't want to buy one just to swap out my prop once.

I don't need it immediately, maybe some time in the next couple weeks when I get my new Acme prop.

PM me and we can work out a deal if you want some compensation.

Thanks,
Devin

I've changed a lot of props and only needed a puller twice, both times were on centurions, coincidence probably. Anyway, if you don't come across one, spray pb blaster down the prop shaft from the backside once or twice a day for a couple days before you are going to pull it. Sometimes they will pull right off after doing that, otherwise a couple wacks with a rubber mallet will usually get them to let loose. Even if you do get a puller the pb blaster soak down isn't a bad idea, they come off easier that way. I've seen a few let go on the puller in pretty dramatic fashion and bust some fingers.

You could also call around to some local shops, the few times I have needed one I've been able to get a shop to let me use it for a couple minutes in their parking lot for $10 or so.

Go to the boat ramp with your boat and trailer (obviously, but to avoid any confusion). Pull the codder key (sp?) and back off the nut behind the prop about a turn or a turn in a half. Back the trailer into the water but leave the boat hooked up - winch line, saftey bar thingy. Fire up the Tige, put her in reverse and give it a heap of gas. I ran mine up to 4k rpm for just a second. Cut off the boat, pull the trailer up, remove the nut and the prop will fall in your hand.

Great idea.

The use of water is going to be a lot more gentle than a prop puller or hammer.

Just remember to keep the nut attached or there will be a lot of damaged.

BrianABE, good idea. I never thought of that, but that would be the gentlest way to do it. Maybe I'll do that if it comes down to it. I'd like to avoid towing the boat to the ramp if I can. It's not exactly easy to get to.

ridininmd, I'll give the PB Blaster a shot first I think and see if I can't get the sucker off. If not, I'll give the local shops a try.

Thanks for the help.

Still, though, if anyone is in the area and will loan/rent me one, PM me.

If you go BrianABE's, route make sure to only turn the nut about one turn. If you back it off too much the prop can jump the keyway and trash the hub.
