Hey guys,
I'm new to the boating world and just purchased a Bayliner 195 with 4.3L I/O - alpha 1 outdrive. I know it's not the best thing for wakeboarding but it's what I have...
Anyhow I have read here and there that there are better prop's for wakeboarding as far as pulling someone up. I wanted to ask your suggestion what would be the best for me.
Thanks in advance! |

the best you can get is the mercury high-five prop. Five blade stainless is great for wakeboarding because it gives a better hole-shot and speed control. As for the pitch, get something under 20 if you plan on adding ballast to your boat, if not 21 is probably good _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

What is the difference between stainless and aluminum?
Is there a big difference between 4 and 5 blade props?
Thanks for the suggestions! |

5 will get way better hole shot than 4, you loose top speed
stainless better hole shot, a slighter less rpm and speed than AL _________________ HUMAN BUILT = HUMAN FIXED

The only benefits to AL is it's cheaper & more easily repaired.
It has more flex and will cost you speed when the pitch is equal to a SS. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/greasemonkeytv |

But because we are on wakeboard forums, we assume that top speed doesnt matter. So to answer his question, a stainless prop is better because it will last longer, comes in 4 and 5 blade models, and has high resale value.
Get the high five. _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

You're right, I'm not really concerned about my top speed. Does a 4 or 5 blade prop make the boat less "Squirelly" when going slow? Just curious...
Thanks! |

it has more surface area so it holds the water easier than a 3 blade, so it maintains speed better. As far as pulling the boat side to side when someone has tension on the line, a little, but not a significant amount. its best to compensate for that with a good driver _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

I was looking at high fives and it seems they only make 1 size diameter prop. I've currently got a 14.5" 19*. The high fives on the website I saw were only 13 1/2 diameter I think it was. Is it typical to have a smaller diameter with more blades on the prop? |

I tested it out this weekend to get some accurate numbers for you experts as I'm new to this game...I would like to get a little pop out of the hole, maybe a little more control as well... Not really concerned about top speed because I never run her wide open.
WOT with trim all the way down was right at 5,000 RPM's and 44.3 MPH.
If I trim it up slighty it will go 1.6 MPH faster. If I trim it up too much RPM's hit 5,200 and rev limited kicks in.
The current prop is a 19* 14.5" aluminum.
I honestly don't know the weight, because I have read different #'s but I believe it is meant to weigh about 2,700lbs. I typically have 4 total passengers including myself with minimal gear. The engine is Mercruiser 4.3L 190HP with Alpha I drive. |
