There are several old threads on this board as well as the DIY board on build it yourself platforms for I/O. You are going to have to dig though.

here's a pic of mine. I think it's done by swim platforms, i had the shop install it when I had the tower done.

it covers out even to the prop, which is nice. kids can walk out on it and jump off the side and nice to put the board on sitting on it.

Barefly, what tower is that on your Chaparral? I'm thinking of getting one for my 2000' Chaparral Sunesta 252.

Thanks!

Chad H,

Will do.. although to be honest, with what's left of my summer (oldest daughter heading to college in 5 weeks) It may not happen until the spring. The four primary concerns I need to work out are:

1st, installation... I'm handy, but would be more comfortable having a very seasoned fiberglass/boat guy helping me do the work. At Lake Gaston, there's a shortage of good help nearby.

2nd, ease of "fold down" and driveability while on the boat - at Lake Gaston a number of the better creeks off the main lake for wakeboarding have very low clearance and would require me to lower the tower in order to navigate the passage.

3rd, when collapsed, will my existing cover still work (a nice, sunbrella cover I just bought that should last me a good 10 years)

and lastly,

4th, how easily can I rasie and lower my factory bimini with the tower in place.

Hopefully the folks at BigAirPylons can guide me and perhaps a few on the forum as well who have similar setups.

From Taylor Towers @ www.taylortowers.com they are located in here in Albuquerque, NM. Great tower and awesome craftmanship! they installed it as well as all the audio I added to the boat.

And to answer a few of your questions - You can see that we have our bimini up - easy to put up/down, no problems. As for lowering the tower, it hinges on the back connections. When stored, the tower goes down to fit in our covered parking area. Also, I have a custom cover that has velcro areas to go around the connectors, but the old cover just slipped over those. So, it should be managable. But the one concern for you, lowering it while going through some of the creeks you mentioned. it would be doable, just be careful I guess. Does that help?

Hey guys, ima bring this one up from the dead, i check out the website and im really considering getting one of the platforms from swimplatforms for my sea ray 180. How hard is the installation? are these worth it? i want something to stand on and sit around while putting on wakeboards and such.

If okieboarder can rip off his top cap and reglass his whole boat I'm sure we can figure out how to DIY this on the cheap... I mean really, how hard can it be?

Here's the one that is supposidly "made for my boat", it doesn't even butt up to the edges of the hull.

http://swimplatforms.contentpros.net/BoatMakesModels/Marada/MaradaMX19301/tabid/4074/Default.aspx

Step 1: Make a fiberglass deck
Step 2: Buy some stainless supports to mount on either side of the outdrive
Step 3: Charge $1500 for it.

I dunno. You're talking about a lot of work to get it right. It's one thing to glass in some wood framework and a whole other to do something to fit up to the transom and have it formed on the top. Mr. Green

$1500 really isn't too bad for what you are getting. Think of how much we're all willing to spend on wakeboard towers. Having a big swim deck on the back is really, really nice. I had a friend that had that brand deck and he loved it. I've seen it in person a couple times and checked it out. Definitely very well built.

It was actually 1145 total. That included the 300 or so in shipping charges. I payed less for my tower so its hard to spend over a grand on a piece of fiberglass

What a load of bullish!t. I asked for a quote if I came and picked it up and they said 1145+tax since we're in the same state. Unbeliveable that it's cheaper for an out of stater to have one shipped.

i challange you to make one nicer then the swimplatform ones. i thought it would be easy to make one and am a diy to the core, also thought how hard can it be.well after 2weeks and more money than i had thought,
it was heavy and not to nice and is now in the trash. the fact is you will not find one nicer then the swimplatforms.com. i think that they look great and have you priced out factory ones? sometimes you gotta pay to play. i will someday get one.

yeah i would contact them about that. They said they would charge me an extra 63 bucks for delivery to a resident address, but i can have it delivered at work and save that money. Seems kind of strange that they quoted us the same price because they say shipping is included in the quote

Seems to me a platform would be super easy to make, just build and mount the proper bracing on your boat, then fiberglass on top, take everything off and build build in some fiberglass braces underneath. sand everything down paint and clear. I couldn't see the cost going above $300 if you know what you're doing...

I don't disagree with the price. Up until i read this thread i was seriously considering purchasing it because from the pics and testimonials across message forums they seem to make an incredible product. But it's unusual that the price for platform on a Chaparral 180le (which i assume uses almost the same amount of material for a Sea Ray 180) is the same shipped to IL as it is if i pick it up and on top of that I have to pay tax. Maybe there was a misunderstanding and I'll probably call later because i really want one. If i save a few hundred on shipping I'd be super stoked.

I think I could do even nicer with fiberglass. Also with glass you could build in the ladder and not just mount it on top. It would be more $ and much more time consuming then that though. That diy would take a couple days. Fiberglass would be a couple weeks. My folks don't like the looks of them or I would build one step by step.

Double post because I'm on my phone and its easier. For that diy britcher I would also consider some stronger mounting then what he did. A full triangle shaped piece would straonger and wouldn't have to go as far to the bottom of the boat as his does.
