From reading through the forum I understand that an inboard is the best boat choice for wake boarding.

But we do a lot of other stuff (cruising, camping, fishing, general messin' about) as well and the boat I am considering is a 20' outboard planing hull with an empty weight of about 1200lbs. It can handle 25 - 50hp. Not an ideal tow boat. But our previous boat was an 18' sail boat so I am sure the towing will be an improvement for us. Wink No more tubing at 3mph.

My question for the groups is if I go with a pylon and lean towards the larger motor size will the kids (<200lbs) be able to get up on a wake board at all, or are we limited to tubing and maybe skiing? I understand that they would probably be missing out on any jumps and such.

Yes, I know for a fact that you can get up on a wakeboard behind an outboard 40 and I'm 180lbs. It is actually easier than getting up on ski's honestly. When you get over like 220 lbs for the rider it causes some problems. Also with tubing it will create some overheating issues. We always towed riders at 19 to 22 mph and changed the oil fuel mixture a little bit to lessen the overheating issues. And you dont need a pylon. To be perfectly honest it is a waste of money because you want be getting enough air off that wake for the low tow point to restrict your movement. Also 2 guests and driver max in the boat if the guests are lighter.
